Next Guitar Hero To Be Harder

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:09 AM

The next game in the Guitar Hero franchise is destined to be harder than previous iterations of the series.

Last night, at a Guiness Book of World Records event where the Guitar Hero 3 world record was broken, Red Octane co-founder Charles Huang promised difficulty:

“We keep making the game harder and harder," Huang said after watching a 97% score on "Through the Fire and Flames." "It’s amazing to see someone like this break the record, even on Guitar Hero 3, where I thought it would be impossible, so clearly we have to go back and make the game even harder."

Work out those fingers, buddy. It's gonna be a rough ride!

Well, seems like im done with GH, since with ever new game, the less songs I can play on the higher difficulty.

Posted by runaway_lad - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:27 AM

that sucks i can barely do hard

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:28 AM

That dewd is the exception not the rule. Damn that dragonforce song is difficult on hard. I do not even understand how someone can beat it on extreme.

but will they have a new Wii version. Since the Wii version doesn't get any DLC. New guitars. etc

Posted by slippy_ick - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:36 AM

Thats Great
But when does the Wii version get DLC?

This is a BAD MOVE! I bought Rock Band for the soul purpose of having fun and not to look for a game that is so insanely difficult that the developers were hoping that it would be impossible. Guitar Hero 3 went straight back to gamestop once I tried playing it on Hard. What's the point of playing these games if they aren't fun for everybody to play?

What is the matter with them? Not everyone can play these songs on hard let alone expert.

@ hetman

Totally agree. They should be making games for ALL and not for the select few that are ridiculously good.

I think Gh3 on hard is a about as difficult as it needs to be. Like I said dragonforce on hard is insanely difficult. I have never beat it. They should at least make it so that the majority of players can be hard. And then they can make expert as insanely difficult as they can.

You beat me to the punch Techno. I have barely played GH3 because it's too damn hard and I don't have fun with it when I get ticked at the game. But since I got Rock Band, I have been having much more fun with it and just enjoying the songs. It's not about how fast can I move my fingers. GH is shooting themselves in the foot if they this making it hard is going to make more people want to play it.

I never play GH3, hard and expert get way to difficult after the half way point. I think it is going to be a bad move to up the difficulty because it is going to alienate the more casual GH players.

Posted by ASXL41 - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:52 AM

It took me long enough just to get five stars on all the songs on medium. I agree that hard is about as far as they need to go.

I completely agree with you hetman, TechnoPirate, & ASXL41. I did buy GH3, and I do believe it's too hard. Do I play it as much as I play Rock Band? Hell no. I think things turned sour when Harmonix left and handed the franchise over to Neversoft. Will I buy the next Guitar Hero game(s) (Aerosmith, 4, etc.)? No, because i am not iamchris4life, or wulfe79, or beberle2. Neversoft wants to make this game franchise more like work, and less like play. Thanks, Neversoft, you bastard.

If they feel the need to make it harder, why not make up for it with some good DLC? When Rock Band has Grateful Dead, Metallica, and Nine Nails, GH comes out with...No Doubt? And then a whole game about Aerosmith...come on. Now I like Aerosmith, but not enough to spend 60 bucks on a game all about them that is more of an expansion pack than a full game. Neversoft is running this franchise into the ground.

Well, looks like im done with this series......

Posted by mustangguard55 - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 2:27 PM

this is were rock band is awesome. they made the game to be fun not impossible. Activision should follow their example and not go for difficulty, go for entertainment. there is a fine line between the two

i was gonna say, gh3 is kinda hard, especially for a n00b

Posted by BleachD - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 3:22 PM

They're probably gonna lose all the customers that are on lower difficulties, the only people who will be it if its really that hard are people like me who have beat expert and as long as the career doesnt have a whole bunch of through fire and flames difficulty songs, higher experienced players should be fine.

Posted by s17ence - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 3:28 PM

i mean, gh3 is easy compared to gh2. and gh2 is easy compared to gh1. so, guitar hero has been progressively gotten easier... i don't know what all of you are complaining about. i'm glad they are making these games more difficult. the more challenging they are, the more fun they are to play.

the only other game i've seen achievements for that i thought i'll probably never get in my lifetime was gears of war.

Posted by Gr1d - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 5:29 PM

The only problem I had with GH3 is Raining Blood, other than that career was easy.
I welcome the challenge.

How about learn to play the real guitar and not this remixed version of simon.

Posted by UnceUnce - Saturday, May 3, 2008 10:26 AM

I like the challenge but I hate that some songs are made ridiculously difficult and that in Guitar Hero III, some non-guitar parts force you to use the guitar. For example, the synth part in Knights of Cydonia makes you hammer on the notes for the synth.
