'Gran Turismo 5' Screens, Details

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, March 06, 2008 8:47 AM

Sony dropped a slew of details on the gameplay, tracks and cars that will make up PS3 racing game Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. For a prologue meant to hold us over until the main game is released, it looks very awesome.

The Features:

  •  Drift Mode – The player’s drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.
  • In Depth Car Tuning – Players have the ability to adjust the vehicle’s performance, including power, weight, tires and suspension.
  • Two-player Split Screen Racing – Allows players to race head-to-head against friends and foes offline.
  • New Race Events – New racing events and time trials are available for players to race both offline and online. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue supports up to 16 players racing online simultaneously.
  • Gran Turismo TV -- a new dedicated online channel that delivers worldwide motorsport programming and manufacturer content.
  • In-cockpit view -- "real-time gauges and human animations that accurately represent the true performance and handling of each vehicle.
  • More dynamic and adjustable Artificial Intelligence, a user homepage called
  • "My Page and a new physics engine"
  • Dualshock 3 compatible.

What, no cupholders??

Sparky2024.... You're Weak! GT5 is anything but.

Posted by collinE - Thursday, March 6, 2008 9:18 AM

Never been a fan of the GT series because I'm no good at it. It's too realistic. But this looks really good. Near photo realistic.

For a demo of something, that's about the greatest ever... Glad I've had it preordered for several weeks w00t!

I'm with collinE. Until they make a racing wheel that actually feels like a real car, then this game is not as fun as it could be.

Posted by demby123 - Thursday, March 6, 2008 9:49 AM

ugh... why does this come out the same month as GTA4?!

my pockets are gonna starve this year
butthe only thing i dont like about this game is the lack of tracks and older model cars(93 MR2 turbo FTW!)

@sparky2024
of course its going to be weak when you dont have a ps3... now isnt it?

Posted by mberko1 - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:03 AM

Looks great but I can wait till the full game comes out

Posted by Bookshelf - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:12 AM

ive always loved the game because i Am good at it. ever since i got my hands on gran turismo 2 ive been addicted. i went back and beat GT1, played GT2, played GT3. and GT4... the most beautiful game ive ever played.

cant wait for GT5

Posted by HenNaHito - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:22 AM

I'll wait for the full game. All of the cars on the list aren't playable, no damage mapping. Its a demo and they want $40 dollars for it.

Posted by highscorefilms - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:34 AM

Not bad. I'm super excited for GT TV, and getting episodes of "Top Gear" on my PS3.

I'm surprised there's no Lamborghinis on that list, but maybe they'll make it for the full version. Either way, I'm glad to finally be able to drive virtual representations of cars I'm too poor to drive in the real world. (Here's hoping the Ford GT and MINI Cooper are playable...)

Posted by DutchThrone - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:42 AM

I can't fing wait till this game comes out.

Posted by thegame97338 - Thursday, March 6, 2008 10:53 AM

Posted by Redd75 - Thursday, March 6, 2008 11:05 AM

Did anyone else notice mijebra1's comment: "all of the cars on the list are not playable"?

Posted by collinE - Thursday, March 6, 2008 12:51 PM

serious. what's wrong with him?

Posted by ShinGino - Thursday, March 6, 2008 1:20 PM

Posted by Fremont34 - Thursday, March 6, 2008 1:30 PM
