GM Figured Out Lithium-Ion Tech

The next step for hybrid cars is moving to lithium-ion batteries, which hold their charge and are smaller than current nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries.

The problem with using Li-Ion batteries is that they generate a lot of heat (the popular cause of hot-crotch among laptop users), but GM thinks they have it all figured out.

The new technology should allow them to throw hybrid engines in every class of vehicle that they produce.

Mercedes-Benz and Toyota also have plans to bring lithium-ion hybrids to production.
