Videogame trade shows like E3, GDC, and DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) will be invite only for press next time around.
GDC is confirmed to be taking this approach, with their organizer Jamil Moledina saying:
"We don't have it nailed down, but we are looking at moving to an invite model for press access at GDC," he said. "It's meant to be a networking event for people who make games, but more and more we are seeing a lot of individuals who are obtaining press credentials who aren't full-time press. It's kind of open to being spoofed, in a way."
The idea is to keep out a ton of press that may have questionable credentials. Too many people are getting into these shows by putting up a blog with some Google Ads that talks about what games they think are awesome.
We think this is a good thing and once again note that if true, this applies to press access only. What do you think?
