'Portal 2' Confirmed on X-Play!

Posted by Jonathan Hunt - Thursday, February 21, 2008 5:35 PM

On tonight's episode of X-Play, lead designer for Portal, Kimberly Swift, confirmed that there will be a Portal 2. This is pretty much a given as Doug Lombardi, Valve's Director of Marketing, had previously stated that "more Portal is definitely on the way." However, until now we weren't sure if this would be in the form of a direct sequel or possibly downloadable content. Well, now we know. Check out the video for the confirmation.

This is a triumph. We're making a note here: Huge Success.

I'm ready for it right now. Hopefully Glados will grace us with her presence once again.

Portal is one of my favorite games of 2007

Posted by POSIXPAUL - Thursday, February 21, 2008 6:57 PM

maybe this time the cake wont be a lie...

NOT!

Posted by JDarkley - Thursday, February 21, 2008 6:58 PM

Will there be cake this time?

Posted by Bnitro - Thursday, February 21, 2008 7:05 PM

The cake was not a lie! There i said it we all saw it, it was there!

Posted by djHaQ - Thursday, February 21, 2008 7:57 PM

Well... this was obvious. GLaDOS clearly states she's still alive. ...Many times.

Now will portal 2 be packed in with Half Life 2 Episode 3 and Team Fortress 3? I liked portal as much as everyone else but I'm not paying $60 for it.

Portal was amazing, I just hope the next game will be as good.

The majority of posts so far are exactly why I have deep reservations about this game. Way way way too many dorks out there thinking it's funny or clever or cool to talk about the cake being a lie and how they want a companion cube of their own. The gameplay was what made Portal great. The song at the end was funny, but I don't know it by heart or care. The companion cube was actually pretty lame to me. I didn't care about a metal box, no matter how hard the game tried. And the whole cake thing was way better as a marketing device than it ended up being in the game.

Just give me a ton more puzzles (a least double the first game) and don't focus on dork-appeal and I'm all about this.

I really liked Portal, fun to burn companion cubes :D The voice work is so LOL funny.

the cake is a lie...but the pie is the truth (portal to the quest for pie)

What ever happened to the good old days when you used to have to shell out 5 bucks for a gamepro mag just to see some pics of a game that might be coming out 2 years from now I have to say this industry is getting tired when you get these people on tv that reviews games that prob dont even play games and these shows, theres no fn surprise anymore they might as well just play the game for us have to say games are getting boring to me its sad and im tired of this format, just sayin though, user out

Posted by IntelliMoo - Thursday, February 21, 2008 11:05 PM

ddcityofsin what you say would be true if people had the attention spans and longer-term memories of the past. lol

Posted by mberko1 - Thursday, February 21, 2008 11:38 PM

@jargy1 true that. Anyone who finds Portal to be 'hilarious' is a supernerd. Don't get me wrong, I thought the game was really fun, but G4 blew loads over this game. On that note I am excited for the next Portal, but there is no way it can be more than $20 and I bet it will be included in the next episode 3 bundle

Epic Success!
:D
Totally thrilled to hear that!
Portal, and Bioshock were both refreshingly funky games that made 2007 an awesome year for PC gaming. I hope we get more of the same when their sequels come out.

@ddcityofsin: I'll bet you've got a totally different problem on your hands than the one you think you have.

Posted by jlstofam - Friday, February 22, 2008 5:30 AM

Can't what!!!

Posted by NATAS999 - Friday, February 22, 2008 6:10 AM

Portal is one of the great games of all time. When I first saw this game I thought it looked dumb but all the hype made me intrested and once I played it I couldn't stop. I would love a longer and possibly harder portal.

Posted by Bookshelf - Friday, February 22, 2008 6:37 AM

portal is pretty interesting. i like games like that where you actually have to think and plan to progress.

Posted by DigiMuppet - Friday, February 22, 2008 8:23 AM

The Sequel to portal is HL2 Episode 3.

Posted by Mankiller5 - Friday, February 22, 2008 9:37 AM

I agree with DigiMuppet.

Posted by schroetlin - Friday, February 22, 2008 1:24 PM

Excellent, I wonder if it will be included with episode 3 like something similar to the orange box

Posted by GLaDOS_Query_Bot - Sunday, March 2, 2008 10:56 AM

To answer an important question here, there can't be cake.

SPOILER

Remember you incinerated the bot with the ingredient list.

its hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Posted by bossD - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 4:38 AM

game could be better

Posted by TheAdamWe - Saturday, August 2, 2008 8:13 PM

Jargy1 and mberko1, I think both of your opinions on this matter is incorrect, You call the humour in this game as nothing more then "dork-appeal" but in fact really your just putting it out because you dont find it funny, and worse. your putting other people down by labeling them as "dorks" because they find the game funny. I found Portal not only a fantastic game but hilarious right to the end, and thats not because the cake is a lie (or isnt, whatever.) its because I find it funny. and so do about roughly 90% of all other portal players. And I pity you both if you think that I am dorky because I find something funny that you dont.

I love this game. The dialouge was clever and funny. Love the end credits. Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" is just hilarious.

The final battle with the AI was awsome. I was laughing at how the dialouge had an interesting diciton, very well thought out and it made me laugh.

I thought the game was never going to end. The more you progressed, the more tight the corridors got sometimes it seemed you were going to be trapped in a tiny square box. I also like how there were words written in blood on the walls. I keep thinking about how those are from the ones that went insane and probably died.

"we do what we must, because we can."
"For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead." LOL.
