I don't remember all games being compared to Gears, but ok. I know they have to tout their own stuff, but I can't remember anyone saying "this game sucks because it doesn't look like Gears of War."

And how do you continue a story that didn't exist? The first game was all "It's the TRAIN, baby!" and burly men squinting at everything. If they actually make a story I'll be happy, but I'm not going to count on it.

I don't think using 2 color palettes grey and black for almost the whole game counts as setting the standard.

Ah yea, there have been games copaired to Gears of War. Halo 3 was one of them, and so many other games after that. Bio Shock too. For the time GOW2 was up and ahead in graphics and gameplay. Now that they have found them selves in development. Only great things can happen. As much as the PS3 fans keep bringing up MGS4... I don't see that as a killer Ap, and while Sony focus on their slow moving library of games. Microsoft will be pumping out games like Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 5, Ninja Gaiden 2, GTA4 with exclusive download content, Conan MMO, Bully, Don King Presents: Prizefighter, Too Human, Mass Effect 2 and so on. I give it till E3 where Microsoft will again show a growing library of Tiple A games, while developers on Sony side still deals with tech problems and tons of delays. I will wait till God of War 3 comes out before I go get a PS3.

I don't think I have seen any war games with blue sky, beautiful bright sunshine and with lots of mulit color flowers all over the place. Hate to tell all you gears haters that MGS4 is just as 2 tone and fall of man same thing. It's just more believable world like that.

@ bugmenot234 - The same can be said for Metal Gear Solid 4 which infact looks like they have used note even 2 palettes. Look at Ghost Recon advance warrior 1, It's was trying to give you a gritty looking world... At still had color at the most so it was not that bad... When you see blood, you really do see blood in GOW...

I want gameplay details, dammit! New Weapons? Improved story? Chainsaw fights!?!

And to everybody whining about the first game's lack of story, the game itself has a pretty good backstory, it's just that it was not that well integrated into the game itself. As I've already admitted, they should work on this for the next game. Last time, the backstory was incorporated into other mediums such as art books and the internet. In the game itself, backstory was implied rather than openly stated, thus not breaking the grim mood of the game. Basically what I'm trying to say is that there was a story, you whiners just didn't look for it.

You are not gonna get gameplay details right now, as there is probably no details to give. This is by far the biggest marketing ploy to try to stir up buzz that I have seen in a while.

The "trailer" has zero game play footage. For a game that is six months away from being "released" and it has no game play footage? Not only that, but the official details about the game are so vague, those same things could be written about any game.

I am a HUGE gears fan. And I am looking for this game as much as anyone else, but I really hope microsoft is forcing epic to rush a sequel. I dont care if it doesnt come out till September of next year, I just want another great game. I dont want a rushed out piece of crap that only exists cause Sony has a little bit of buzz around their games right now, and the XBox is looking for something for someone to talk about.

Off subject but it is rumored that COD 5 is not being developed by infinity ward(like COD3) and will be set back to WW2. If that is the case I will not be buying it. Enough with WW2 already.

On subject this does look like it is going to be cool. Unfortunately I no longer have a 360.

WW2 has been played out. I don't think there is a single half-second of WW2 that WW2 shooters haven't covered.

On topic:
Gears of War will go the way of Halo. The first one is groundbreaking, the second one is improving on the first one, and the third one is incredibly overhyped with a few changes to how stuff works. Just wait and see. You'll figure it out. Years from now, after the third Gears is released, people will be saying "Oh it was so overhyped and such a disappointment." You should listen now, and take my words to heart.

Yawn. How about telling gamers something that they don't know Epic. How about the new story missions, a few insights of character development, etc. Hell, The Gears of War 2 trailer was more informative than this. Either way, I'm still excited for the next installment.

CliffyB doesnt like selling games on PC anymore, and off topic...if COD5 is WW2 im gnna stay with COD4 and gears of war2 is gnna be awesome even if its near the same type of gameplay, the first one is playable for years not like Halo

KratosFan, wow. Halo 3, dissapointment? Maybe lightly because of the campaign.. but that's about it. What do you expect about new things? Did you expect Halo 3 to be a RPG? Or a 3rd-person shooter? Halo's dynamics and gameplay are always going to be the same but as each game goes there will be new vehicles and guns. Not to mention that it has Forge, Theatre, and 4-player co-op mode which is outstanding considering it's not a PC game.

Oh and hey, Kratos, I can say the same thing about your MGS series ::)

I do not think GOW was overhyped at all. That game has been in my 360 almost constantly for the past year and a half. And I do pretty much compare all of my games to GOW, at least the online multiplayer portion of it. I have yet to find another online game that has the graphics, the ability to do split screen, and the ability to use everything in the map as cover like GOW. It is just an AWESOME game!! All of my future games will be compared to this and I cannot wait for GOW2!!

I'm pretty excited about the news. Gears 1 was a great game all around. I'm reading about the game having NO storyline at all but the game gives you a little taste of the storyline with the small cinema after a short wait at the title screen. Plus on the official Gears site, a back story is given so one could further understand the game. It's not the whole story but it's enough to keep you interested and wanting more. I think that Gears has become a standard as far as the look, the feel, and play of future action games. I know a lot of gamers that compare new games to Gears as far as the online play is concened, kind of the way that people compare games to Halo.

The news about gears of war 2 is great for november but what about the present? Everyone is missing the ultimate question what about right now? just to tide the dedicated fans of (GOW)over I believe that there should at least be extra maps and or downloadable content for the current GOW. The PC version received more maps and I just believe that the console owners should be able to receive said maps as well as content. Not to mention the rumblings of new weapons. At one point there was mention of duel wielding and flame throwers what ever happened to those bright ideas?
