'Guitar Hero: Aerosmith' Announced

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 15, 2008 7:52 AM

It was rumored for months, but now it's official: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is coming.

The game allows players to live the majesty and triumph of Aerosmith from their days as a garage band up until they ascend the rock throne and rule rock with an iron fist. It comes out in June for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Plus, Guitar Hero 3 owners will get a present: Dream On will be available for free download for free between February 16-18 for both the PS3 and the 360. Sorry, Wii.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

No track list has been announced as yet, but we bet you'll be playing every well-known Aerosmith tune and a lot of unknown rockers. Whether partying with groupies and scarf wrapping mini-games will be included has not been confirmed.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will be developed by Neversoft, with Vicarious Visions behind the Wii edition and Budcat handling the PlayStation 2 iteration.

Posted by desertwoman - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:16 AM
Oh great. I can't even download it because my 360 is in for repair.

Posted by cmdluke - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:23 AM
cool

Posted by Hrolf - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:23 AM
no thanks. RB is looking better and better with more dlc.

Posted by earthmonkeyy - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:32 AM
Yes, crappy Neversoft isn't working on the PS2 version!!!

Posted by jedi0bscura - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:38 AM
A whole game based around Aerosmith? Booorriing Don't get me wrong Aerosmith is good, I like them, but a whole game based around the one band? Where's the variety? And here's to hoping some more of their songs make it to RB! And Hurray! for bands whoring it out on these games! woot!

And for their first all one band game, they certainly did pick one of the cheesiest.

Posted by jedi0bscura - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:42 AM
whoa, this thing made me edit my post because songs and hit were next to each other (with a space in between) flagging it as a dirty word but said nothing about the word whoring?

Posted by cmdluke - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:49 AM
Aerosmith is good all around rock and roll. I think its a good first single band try at the game.

Posted by longcoldstare - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:03 AM
What an awful choice.

I would rather see Guitar Hero: Metallica. Start off with the Kill 'em All days, including kicking out Dave Mustaine. But, once you get past the Black Album stage, you have the option of becoming an awful alt-rock facsimile, or crafting the ultimate trash metal masterpiece. Then we can see what would be if they never made Load. You also have the option of saving Cliff Burton's life by upgrading your bus.

Posted by Hrolf - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:09 AM
now thats kinda a cool idea.

can they leave out everything from the black album on though?

All these music games are overrated, though Rock Band has some moments that are fun. Focusing on one band is just not a good idea. They're excluding a ton of people who don't like Aerosmith, and I just know it's going to have horrible songs on it.

With any luck it won't have stupid nobody-but-the-developers-and- geeks-have-heard-of-it songs like that Dragonforce crap in GH3. But we'll see.

Posted by earthmonkeyy - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:21 AM
jediobscura, yeah, with videogames sometimes selling more than major hollywood blockbusters, it's so hard to imagine a band wanting to cash in on it. Considering people have been stealing music from bands off the internet for around 10 years now, it's jsut so hard to believe they wanna make $ off their songs, isn't it? You gimp, Go play with your star wars toys.

I think people should stop buying nintendo. The clearly could care LESS about the game players. Other game systems who were behind are not proving to be more worth the money. Stupid @$%*ing jerks.

Posted by earthmonkeyy - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:27 AM
Why are you bringing Nintendo in on this? With the gamecube and the wii, they focus on GAMES, unlike the other 2 companies. Go back to bed fool. You make no sense.

Posted by earthmonkeyy - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:28 AM
Yeah, people are really going to stop buying Nintendo, LMMFAO.

Posted by Hrolf - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:33 AM
how do we go from a crappy gh aerosmith game to atacking nintendo?

Posted by Fremont34 - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:36 AM
Lol and you guys are not too bright. the nintendo Wii version of GH3 comes in monotone. You cant download any content. some of the extras were not put in to it. oh and lets not forget nintendo doesnt allow patches from any gaming companies. now you can understand why some of us HATE our nintendo wii!

Posted by Hrolf - Friday, February 15, 2008 10:01 AM
trying? all the people that buy gh aerosmith will ensure more craptastic games like this continue.

Posted by NATAS999 - Friday, February 15, 2008 10:15 AM
No way I'm spending $60 on a game that only features one band. I like Aerosmith but how many songs do they have that are really any good, maybe 10. Thanks for the free song though.

When is Uwe Boll making a GH movie?

Posted by peterpan - Friday, February 15, 2008 12:02 PM
Eh I would not go out of my way to go to an Aerosmith concert let alone go out and buy this game.

Posted by mitcher793 - Friday, February 15, 2008 12:06 PM
I really doubt the makers of Guitar Hero would make a game STRICTLY about aerosmith. im sure there are gonna be other tracks just by aerosmith. If they did i would think they would just put them up for download like the did foo figters and velvet revolver. Anyway i cant wait to play my favorite aerosmith tune on the 16th.

Posted by chinkilla666 - Friday, February 15, 2008 12:14 PM
that sucks.
guitar hero has gotten so lame.

Posted by rockstr21 - Friday, February 15, 2008 12:17 PM
centering it around one band is stupid. gh3 has what, 70+ songs with the bonus and co-op ones? and it still could use a lot more, or atleast better quality.. Bret Michaels??

Posted by GOBBLOXX - Friday, February 15, 2008 12:27 PM
They need GH:black sabbath !

Posted by ShinGino - Friday, February 15, 2008 1:10 PM
I just want Dethklok music in there, included the band members.
GHIII did sponsor their tour.

Posted by Dogmatic2020 - Friday, February 15, 2008 1:28 PM
My God, I can imagine "Guitar Hero: Metallica."

Yeah, Not a real big fan of this. I like about 5 Aerosmith songs.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Friday, February 15, 2008 1:48 PM
i don't get this at all. i mean, if they're going with a band for kitsch factor, they should be choosing a relevant band, like journey or boston. not that i like them, but hipsters in their affected ironic stance clearly find those two bands amusing. unless this is being aimed at actual aerosmith fans. in which case, all of the troglodytic trailer-park denizens that can actually spell xbox360 and ps3 will be happy. that should be about two or three people.

@jedi0bscura: i once tried to post something with the name j i m in it, and g4 wouldn't allow it. (and i was forced once again to put spaces through it! hey g4, what's wrong with a FEKKIN NAME?!)

Posted by shroomguy - Friday, February 15, 2008 2:00 PM
I'm not trying to be an Aerosmith hater, but a whole game based around one band! Just give out a crapload of Aerosmith DLC's!

Posted by Teklepto - Friday, February 15, 2008 2:39 PM
4get all the haters this is gonna be dope! i can't wait to drunk and play some aerosmith tunes....I get drunk and sing-a-long, but now I can play on guitar hero! sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Posted by Asrugan - Friday, February 15, 2008 2:57 PM
For all those complaining about the choice of band, try to remember that GH4 is prolly also out this year, so you'll still have a choice with lots o bands.

Posted by kaneva_shadein - Friday, February 15, 2008 3:00 PM
Hell yeah

Posted by codemonkeypwnz - Friday, February 15, 2008 7:00 PM
led zeeppelin, sex pistols, iggy pop, or ramones because they have a long story and good music (more or less on iggy pop's part)

Posted by Voldymort - Friday, February 15, 2008 7:37 PM
GH Led Zeppelin would be great. They had much greater success than Aerosmith, and generally better songs in general. Can you imagine the sheer awesomeness of playing the solos on Heartbreaker and Stairway to Heaven?

Posted by Wuffells - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:49 PM
wow this is kinda dumb. i dont really know aerosmith that much but even if i did know them i would still think its a bad idea, im not gonna waste my money on a game themed around one band.

Now a Led-Zepplin themed guitar hero or Guns and Roses (not just slash like gh3) game would be alright but still a one band themed game come on that wont sell half as well

Posted by Wuffells - Friday, February 15, 2008 8:54 PM
or Black Sabbath that would make a good story and think of playing songs like crazy train, Iron-man, and Bark at the moon

Posted by gamerfreak2553 - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:03 PM
i'm throwing this out there a gh battle of the bands its where your a guitarist in a band playing a gainst a rival band the whole game it comes complete with custom character and a create a riff feature alowing you to record a 3 minute guitar solo

Posted by Betty_Dizzle - Friday, February 15, 2008 9:33 PM
they really need to make a guitar hero: pantera

Posted by Sintro2 - Friday, February 15, 2008 11:53 PM
Guitar Hero: Van Halen should be next.

Posted by PlayWii360 - Saturday, February 16, 2008 11:52 AM
The Guitar Hero game is still a great concept, if you're not a big fan of Aerosmith then just don't play or buy the game. I did some reading around through various websites about how Guitar Hero selects their songs. The developers said there are so many great songs and bands, such as Led Zeppelin, that they would like to put on the games, but the record companies won't allow it yet. It has less to do with which songs are the most popular, and more to do with which bands and which record companies allow Guitaro Hero to play which songs. Bottom line, if anybody is unhappy with the selection on Guitaro Hero, blame the usual suspects, the record companies.

FRICKIN SWEET IVE ALREADY GOT FIVE STARS ON DREAM ON IM LOVIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Gas_Mask_Ninja - Sunday, February 17, 2008 5:36 PM
@longcoldstare--dude, i totally agree with the METALLICA idea, but it should be based off of Rock Band, not GH (though songs like Orion would be issues due to lack of vocals)
other ideas-System of a Down, DragonForce (ha-good luck), Motorhead...

@jargy1--dude, back off. listen to a full DF album, crap your pants, and open your mind.
