Circuit City to Delve Into Used Games

Posted by Ty Colfax - Thursday, February 07, 2008 11:21 AM

The folks over at Circuit City are getting into the used videogame racket, citing some research that puts the resale market at a robust $1.5 billion a year industry in North America. With the used market currently dominated by specialty shops like GameStop and Game Crazy, we can bet there is little worry among the small players. Users are typically loyal in their chosen stamping grounds, and honestly, who goes to Circuit City unless there's not a Best Buy for 100 miles?

That said, sometimes among the uninformed (thrift stores, yard sales) you can find some real gems, and so a couple trips to Circuit City might be in order just to see if their pricing on used games is as off as their marketing campaigns and store layouts.

Wow, that came out of nowhere.

Yeesh. Circuit City displays their new DVDs and games in no order at all. Throw used stuff in their and it's going to be even more of a mess.

Nice write up jrmylmb.

I think CC will fail if they don't do it right and try to offer better pricings that Gamestop. If they try to sell used games for $5 less than new it won't work.

Plus all the CC stores will now smell like feet from storing all the used games.

CC is one of the WORST consumer conscience corps. in the world. You can bet they are not getting into it to save us money.

CC is on the edge of bankruptcy, this is just a shot in the dark to save themselves.

@Tmidiman

All CC stores already smell like BO, might as well add feet to the equation.

Has anyone else noticed this? I've been in a handful of stores and they literally ALL smell like BO.

Circuit City? What game goes into Circuit City? But at least this might get GameStop to finally offer lower prices or more money for games.

Excuse me, but what do you mean by "getting into" when they've been selling used games for years now.

Or did you never notice how the wrapping of many of their (older) video games seem to resemble the same type used by Gamestop?

Oh, and expect to be reamed even worse by CircuitCity for buyback prices. And you thought Gamestop screwed you over.

HA HA
I love how the write up disses CircuitCity, and how as CircuitCity is advertising on G4
