First 'Mass Effect' DLC Announced

The first downloadable content for blockbuster RPG Mass Effect was announced this morning. Check out the screen! That's the Batarians. You'll be spending a lot of time with them.

The “Bring Down the Sky” downloadable content pack will be released to Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Monday, March 10 at 2 a.m. PDT, and will be available for 400 MS points. This is the first in a series of planned downloadable content that further expands the “Mass Effect” universe and continues the adventures of Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew.

Here's what you can expect:

A "new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians.  A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova.  Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent."

I just hope its actualy a good long story, and not just an added side quest with no voice overs and a generic building and planet, just like all the other side quests(dont get me wrong, I enjoyed them, they added to the storry, but for some DLC I would like to see some production quallity on scale with that of the main game.)

It better be a full mission and not some BS side questing stuff, like most of the galaxies. I want some new areas to actually explore on foot. (P.S. I hate the rover... it blows like the wind.)

I like the Mako...its pretty sweet but ONE new world, 400 MSP, sounds like it's not gonna be very expansive. I bet this'll take 15-20 min. to complete.

According to the Mass Effect website, the DLC is a good 90 minutes on average.

Finally we get to see the Batarians. The novel talks ALOT about the Batarians but we never got to see them in the actual game. I'm glad Bioware is finally including the Batarians in Mass Effect.

400 points = Fantastically reasonable price. Even though, I'm still dropping $50 a year for XBL and I paid $60 for the game...

Still a five dollars stipend isn't bad, if the effin' Halo maps were that much I'd consider buying them, but then kick myself in the dick because I've vowed off that evil game since CoD4.

From what I hear it will take like 90mins to get through.. A lil disappointing because as Wik pointed out we drop $60 for the game $50 a year for X-box live and now $5 for 90mins of new content.. I love the game but I want something like the half life volumes, like 5-8hrs of stuff that adds to the story.. But yes I will get it the game is 1 of the best iI've played..

its only 5 bucks dont expect a whole new game but the screenshot with the batarians their does look like its a new enviroment not just the same old stuff and the screenshot of the normandy looks like its going to dock somewhere so im guessing it will either be like a 1-2 hour mission or maybe be like the downloadable space station from kotor who knows? all i can say is those guys creep me out!!!!!!!

Lookin forward to it, I'm working on my 3rd time through on the third story line. looking forward to a whole new place, even if it is a small galaxy or something

From what I have heard, it's supposed to be a constant stream of 90-120 minute episodes added tri/quad monthly... so around 5-6 hours of new content a year... sounds like goodness to me. ME2 is a long way away.
