Hot Coffee Settlement Site Live

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Monday, January 28, 2008 2:15 PM

If you own Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and you were terribly offended by the Hot Coffee mod that was added to the game, today is your lucky day*! The class-action lawsuit over the game was settled previously, and now, the wronged class (people offended by the Hot Coffee mod) will get their payout.

First, you must swear under penalty of perjury that they were "offended and upset by the ability of consumers to use third party software and/or hardware to modify and alter the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas First Edition Disc to display the Hot Coffee content," then, it's payday!

Here's the breakdown:

If you have and submit: What you may get:
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas First Edition Disc Replacement Disc
Detailed Store Receipt Cash payment up to $35.00
General Credit Card Statement or Check Cash payment up to $17.50
Disc/Purchase Details Cash payment up to $10.00
No Disc/Purchase Details Cash payment up to $5.00

Hopefully, the gaming community and the rest of the world can put this very, very ridiculous controversy to bed.

What a stupid lawsuit. Hopefully the people that cash in on this get the runs. While I've no interest in the hidden content I'm keeping my disc because this could very well be worth a little bit more a few years down the road.

Posted by thekiddoshodi - Monday, January 28, 2008 5:06 PM
hopefully we will just have adult only games.... where are all the AO games??

Posted by crimeboss - Monday, January 28, 2008 5:20 PM
Who would still have a detailed store receipt? I would like a settlement for being exposed to 2 girls 1 cup.

Posted by staychisel - Monday, January 28, 2008 5:41 PM
@crimeboss, i do. i keep all of the receipts for my games tucked in with the manual. i'm considering doing it so i can get a replacement disc (mine is scratched) and $35 would be pretty sweet to invest in a new game.

im doin it just for the money! even though i was actually pleasantly suprised and entertained rather than mentally scarred for the rest of my life

Posted by Lavat - Monday, January 28, 2008 6:50 PM
A way to get money? Yes thank you very much. Lucky I keep all my receipts.

M for Mature people. mature content in a mature game. Mature meaning not for kids.an educated person should understand that.being shocked at mature content in a mature game is like being shocked at nudity in porn.Thats why its porn.

So, anyone who purchased this game and was offended by its hidden content is entitled to this settlement? Well, I was not offended by the content, but I am offended by the the idiots and morons who made this decision and anyone who agrees with it. Where is my settlement? My settlement should be much larger because the supposed offensive scene in GTA was fictional and created with computer code. The idiots and morons who are offended by GTA's hidden content are real, and unfortunately, I have to share this planet with them. I endure significant pain and suffering because of these people. Their constant complaints and judgements about anything outside of what they deem "moral" and "unacceptable" are impugning my rights and the rights of content providers to provide me with the content I desire.

A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

I would like to hope anyone who actually likes GTA wouldn't do this. You do realize it's Rockstar and Take Two that's paying you right? That means the company suffers. They've already been on a rocky road financially, so if everyone goes out and tries to do this, you only hurt the company. Don't be foolish, is $5 or even $35 really worth it to help take down a company you actually like?

Posted by anonomousperson - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 8:34 AM
I think the people who cash in on this should have to pay $20 for disturbing the peaceful existance of video games. Then have them walk through prison and see how real criminals are trained. Compare that kind of experience to the slightly sexual or the outright fantasy gangbanger existance in video games and see which one influences more.

I wasn't offended by Hot Coffee, I was empowered. Finally, as a mature gamer, I had the power to play the game the way the publisher intended it to be played. Will I ever be this empowered again? I do not know. But that little collector’s item of a disk stays right here.

For those that missed it what can I tell you. It was like everything else in the game. It was part of the GTA:SA experience. It was good, it was fun, it made you think, it was just a game.

I'm looking forward to GTA IV.

RockStar is about the ONLY video game publisher i respect. it a shame people like to go after them just because they want to challenge the norm and push the envelope. if you acutely like the games and have the disc and such. i would say not do it, unless as one person said they need a replacement disc cus the disc is fairly old and worn. the issue of M and AO games is so ridiculous. you can thank Walmart, Best Buy, Target etc. for this. they are the ones who refuse to sell AO games cus it tarnishes there "Family" image. i have a local store who does sell AO games, but not everyone does. so no one publishes AO games because of this. and the difference between AO and M should not even exist. M should be upgraded to 18 and older, the equivalent of NC-17 in movies. and the AO rating removed from the board, or seen as the equivalent to X rating. pornographic purpose games only. then any game that would be deemed AO would be pretty much just be M. which is how it SHOULD be.

wow for all the consumers that are offended and upset by a video game that has mature content are nuts because ther are much more mature content in rl than a video game has also i will be happy when a vodeo game has that type of mature content.

also for all of the moms and dads who got the game or other M type of games for your kid or kids you are the one to blame not the video games.

also GTA: SA was fun to play
I'm looking forward to GTA IV

Rock Star's maximum liability is $2,750,000 plus expenses on this so if are too many claims the money just dries up. If there is money left over it goes to charity.

I would suggest that if you do join the lawsuit give the money to charity. That way the wimps who were offended don't get less money and people who need it get more.

If you were offended by that mod, then why the hell would you play GTA? It's a M rated game, I don't see why you'd play it and be fine with everything except that scene.

P.S: Is it true Oblivion had a mod similar to this one?

Posted by toby3p0 - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 2:18 PM
That is a bunch of crap. The court should not have the right to step in and say that they have to give people their money back if they were offended.

Posted by HALOscorpian - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 2:29 PM
Rockstar shouldn't have to pay anything for GTA San Andreas because THE HOT COFFEE MOD!!! WAS A MOD!!! stupid people just need to stop being soooooo stupid

Posted by tarshimo - Tuesday, January 29, 2008 7:35 PM
@ hayatesama
