Actor Heath Ledger Found Dead

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 1:52 PM

Heath Ledger, who will play The Joker in The Dark Knight this summer, has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment, just an hour ago. At this time, there is no word on the cause of death, and, though rumors abound, there has been no official word on what it might have been.

Though there is also no word on how this might effect the production of the film, principal photography on The Dark Knight is said to be done, so the film might not be affected. Ledger leaves behind a child, with his ex-wife Michelle Williams, a co-star from Brokeback Mountain.

wow, thats really sad. why do all the pretty people have to die? :'(

Posted by TechnoPirate - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:30 PM

Just read this on MSNBC. Looks like no Dark Knight sequel with The Joker involved. What the Hell is wrong with actors and actresses? They're either crazy, not crazy enough, or just right but then O.D. on drugs. Hope this doesn't effect the Dark Knight release at all. Call me shallow, but I want to see that movie come Hell or high water...or dead actors.

Posted by staychisel (BANNED) - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:31 PM

i just found this out a few mins ago...shocking if you ask me.

Posted by jargy1 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:32 PM

They replaced Katie Holmes, they can replace Ledger too. I normally don't care about dead rich people, but Ledger had a lot of potential (most of is wasn't used yet) and he really didn't strike me as having issues. I won't say he died from drugs, but if that's the case he really didn't seem the type.

Posted by EliteWiitard - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:33 PM

That's terrible.
I know this is the last thing to think about, but I hope the Dark Knight comes out on schedule.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:33 PM

this sucks. how can people like Pete Doherty, Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, etc. get into all sorts of life-threatening shenannigans and survive, while someone with real talent is struck down in their prime? i'm 29, for fek's sake! ah, rest in peace, mate.

Posted by Nirvana420 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:33 PM

Is it just me, or does this kinda remind you of Brandon Lee from the Crow movie? Height of his career, just getting really famous, wore some paint on his face throughout the movie... Either way, I hope this doesn't affect Dark Knight either... cuz it looks like the best movie of 2008 so far. RIP.

Posted by Lucian_1 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:34 PM

Did they say it was O.D.? About the third Batman Film, The Joker was going to have a small part because Two Face is the Main Villain in the third film. Who knows maybe they can get a real good look alike to play that small role of Joker in the third.

Nirvana

I thought the exact same thing!!

Posted by Cloud_5 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:37 PM

This is shocking to say the least. I couldn't believe it. Damn....

But...Do you think someone assassinated him because of Brokeback Mountain? I mean, a lot of people were outraged about him doing that film. They could have poisoned him or something, cause he didn't look like the druggy type.

Just a theory...

ok, i diddn't like the idea of heath ledger as the joker, then the trailer came out, and I thought ok, this could be interesting, then I saw the first five minutes and was getting really excited about the movie, and now this, I hate this happened, because I would love to see heath get the credit he deserves for his role as the joker......

OMG! I hope the movie won't be ruined. Poor Heath Ledger.

Posted by Urani_Baout - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:51 PM

Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy how this just happen a few hours ago. It would be kind of weird watching him on screen as The Joker. Sucks that he won't be in the 3rd Batman. At first I thought it might have been a prank that The Joker would pull off. But sadly it was true he died.

RIP Heath Ledger

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:53 PM

This sux. I liked heath ledger. And the new batman movie looked awesome. It is just not going to be the same watching it knowing that he is dead.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:54 PM

my girl just texted me, she saw on some news spot that he was waiting for a massage, and that he had taken painkillers.

Posted by Lavat - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:55 PM

I shouldn't comment anymore here...But I just heard a poor man got run over by train not 7 hours ago because he was keeping himself out of the rain. Why would anyone care if a drug addict got an overdose. Please.

Posted by SouthPro - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:56 PM

"I guess Batman found a way to stop The Joker. Finally."

lol I love it! I dont have any remorse for people that commit suicide or are on drugs. What an idiot. He could have been great too.

I just hope this doesnt halt the Dark Knight from coming out.

Posted by SpotRamer - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:57 PM

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:14 PM

They hav enot released details of his death. Im not saying it is or is not an overdose but people could at least until more information to come about before jumping to conclusions.

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.

anyone who doesn't wanna think that it was drugs might want to take a quick little reality check. celebs like drugs and they have the money to do them. this death is totally tragic, but let's be realistic here.

Posted by BERT0NE - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:25 PM

I think he was overworked and needed help to sleep for some time he was in london australia and ny city in last five days... you people need to back off until we know what the true story is...

just because he is a star doesn't make him a stereo type...

Posted by Gearhead3000 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:26 PM

I heard on CNN that he was traveling in three different timezones(Australia, London, and America) and started using these sleep pills during his Joker role. And he could have easily have ODed by accident

Posted by Nomad_19 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:59 PM

wow it seems circumstances seem to be a bit bruce lee like... i hope its not said that he was on sleeping pills or painkillers or whatever its been said as a result of the batman movie.. it could be bad PR...

Posted by Hellwarden - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:00 PM

Wow that really sucks.....I mean he was a fantastic actor.

Posted by GameTech - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:10 PM

Well that's the end of the Joker.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:10 PM

i don't see how this could be correlated to the deaths of bruce and/or brandon lee except that they've all now died young. there's a great deal of conspiracy surrounding the deaths of bruce and brandon, and for all we know, heath ledger was just overworked and needed some help getting to sleep as he adjusted to three separate time zones...

Posted by what0080 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:15 PM

What's worse about this is that his career was set to take off after "The Dark Knight," but suddenly this happens... G*d can be really cruel sometimes...

Posted by FJR12 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:16 PM

I heard about this on the radio while driving back home and it was a shock to me. I couldn't believe that he died at an early age like this. I enjoyed Heath in the movie "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson, one of my favorite movies of all time. RIP Heath Ledger. I can't wait for Dark Knight cause I know I will watch it.

This is terrible news to be honest. I've thought about this all day. I haven't felt this odd about a death since Steve Irwin.

Posted by Storm1968 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 6:31 PM

Actually, Heath's first role was in the short-lived TV show called 'Roar'. I believe his first movie was '10 things', but I do know he had several other roles with the same actors from 'Knights Tale'. He was a good actor that is all to soon gone... RIP Heath

Posted by TheKei - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 6:38 PM

@ Malfar: Right on! While the media and tons of people that never knew him are making wild, ridiculous speculations on how he achieved his present state, you bust out with some incredible words that are as real as it gets.
Death is part of life. A lot of people are so afraid of it and say such imbecilic things about it that they never really see the true beauty of it. A life lived with the fear of death is a Hell in itself.

Posted by Metonic4289 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008 7:06 PM

not to sound like an ass...
10 things i hate about you was great movie.. knights tale wasnt bad... but aside from those... Dark knight, is going to be the only movie he'll be known for-hopefully overshadowing that awful brokeback movie... And if his death F's up this movie IM GONA BE PO'ed...

STFU, dude. What do you mean, "We didn't know him" , what? Your comparison to people dying in Cambodia is idiotic. Those people didn't come into your living, and give you a great time. While their deaths are sad, actors such as Heath were a bigger part of some lives than these nameless faces you're speaking of.

This is truly sad. I'm so bummed right now. It's so hard to believe.

Why do the good one's always die young? Britney Spears is still alive. Where's the justice in that? Well, at least there'll be more people who see The Dark Knight now because of this. His death is incredibly unfortunate, but it sounds like he put everything into the Joker.

LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!! sorry I had to do that.

Why couldn't it had been her or stupid lindsay. THE JOKER is dead man this is wack.

Having worked in a pharmacy for almost two years I've seen a lot of people on sleep meds and just because you take them doesn't mean your a drug addict so some of you guys need to back off on the addict crap. Lot's of people are on it many of them mothers of children and they are good natured people who need help. Heath Ledger was over worked and must have had trouble getting rest. Maybe his body reacted to the medicine, I don't know. What I'm not gonna do is Blame him for being an addict. It could've been accidental.

I just hope it wasn't suicide. Maybe The Joker Role got to his psyche playing a demented, demonic, crazed, lunatic, and he couldn't take it anymore.

Poor Guy. He'll be missed. RIP

allergic reaction to what ever he took, which was what happened to bruce lee, which can happen if you are taking perscription drugs not perscribed to you... if you are famous i think it wouldnt be that hard to get drugs without perscription.. brandon lee was just negligence (i.e. using the gun with dummy bullets, getting one jammed in the barrel and then using blanks to shoot at an actor with the same gun)...
