Metallica Go Multi-Media In Japan

Posted by Frank Meyer - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:23 AM

Heavy metal legends Metallica are teaming with G8wave, Art Empire Industries (AEI) and Alchemedia Interactive Media (AIM) to broadcast the band’s music videos with visual prompts and audio promotions in Japan. The companies hope that the promotion will encourage fans to buy a selection of content made for mobile phones, including music videos, video ring tones and other exclusive content relating to Metallica.

"We all know that Metallica has a huge following globally,” said Brad Mindich, chief strategy officer at g8wave. “But the Japanese market, with its advanced technologies and consumer desire to test new mobile applications, allows us the opportunity to expand the band's reach and influence even further."

G8wave provides interactive entertainment, social networking and mobile marketing services, including mobile content distribution, mobile marketing applications and consulting and mobile community development services. AEI is a UK-based digital media & entertainment company that specializes in acquisition, production, marketing, distribution and monetization of digital content, while AIM is a UK-based mobile media production company.

This is great news for music fans who feel that between all the albums, videos, tours and merchandise Metallica remains underexposed.

Metallica rules 10 years ago. Now they are clean, sober, bible thumpers. If you are gonna be metal, satan is your bedfellow.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:41 AM
sparky, i bet you think avenged sevenfold rules, too.

Posted by lcromy - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:45 AM
Screw the Japanese stuff.

Why can't they just come out with a new album for God's sakes. It's been 9 years since any real music came out. That 2003 St. Anger album was down right terrible. I've been waiting since 1999's S & M album for something new.

RELEASE A NEW ALBUM FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD! YOUR GETTIN OLD!

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:48 AM
these guys are such an embarrasment now.

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:49 AM
I liked metallica for a long time. They were my first concert and they rocked out. I even stuck with them through St. Anger album. It was bad but whatever I still liked metallica. And then I watched some kind of monster. And it turns out they are just four whinney little bitches. It made me sad watching it. Lars might be the biggest deauchbag on the planet.

@hetman:

not "might be." lars ulrich is a d-bag deluxe. metallica was my first show, too (w/FNM & G n' R), although you stuck around much longer than i did. really put a lot of points in the ol' fortitude, eh?

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:59 AM
I guess I really didnt stick around. I just always thought they would release another good CD even if it was a live CD greatest hits thing. But some kind of monster was just horrible. I do not know how they let someone release that. If I was James I would have never let that be released.

Posted by anonomousperson - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:03 AM
Is it strange to anyone else that these guys were hardcore rockers and now they are wimpy and whiny and the hardcore fans havent done a damn thing to stop them. Yet some prick (probably a metallica head) rushed the stage of a DamagePlan concert and killed the greatest guitarist of all time? I guess it is true, the amazingly good die young and pricks live forever. They will still be around when they are kcufin 100 and still playing the songs from the 90s.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:04 AM
hetman, if you were James, your brain would be so addled from a lifetime of alcohol abuse that you wouldn't be capable of making a good decision. which explains everything since the black album.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:06 AM
anonomousperson, dimebag was by far NOT the greatest guitarist of all time.

Posted by anonomousperson - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:09 AM
Ok, I shall rephrase then, The greatest Metal Guitarist. Old school rock I give to Stevie Ray and calm rock music to Jimmy. But in the age of Metal, sorry, Dime's got the title.

@ anon: its because anyone who was a hardcore metallica fan ditched that trainwreck a decade ago. The metallica fans now are the same people who like to pop their collars and listen to Avenged Sevenfold

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:12 AM
@anonomousperson:

yeah, if you don't count the guys from Dragonforce, John Petrucci, Claudio Sanchez, the geniuses in Opeth. . .

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:13 AM
Dime Bag was a really good guitarist. It is really hard to pick one great guitarist because their are a lot out their. But I will agree that Dime Bag was one of the best.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:14 AM
oh, and i forgot to add Jimmy Page and Pete Townsend, without whom we would not have had the origins of metal guitar. and there's Dave Mustaine, the boys from Blind Guardian. . .

Posted by Slaytanic40oz - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:16 AM
you kidding me? listen to one angelcorpse song, the guitars are insane

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:18 AM
slaytanic40oz, you're right. i would also like to call attention to trey azathoth's work on Angel of Disease, among other Morbid Angel masterpieces.

Posted by anonomousperson - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:19 AM
Thats why I gave the old school rock to Stevie Ray. After him, the others just could barely make par. Then when Metal came around, Dime shot beyond all the others. Jimmy page, Pete Townsend helped morph old rock into metal yes but they couldn't quite cross the line. Dime took it beyond and now everyone emulates what Dime did on a nightly basis. They practice styles of Jimmy and Stevie to play Dime.

Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Randy Rhodes...

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:23 AM
dude, dimebag was a competent guitarist at best. i guess you're entitled to your (ill-informed) opinion. but that dude didn't innovate, and 80% of his tihs sounded the same. color me not impressed.

How about we all agree Metallica has withered and is on life support now, Olivia Munn should wear a bikini on the show from now on, and cookies taste good.

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:34 AM
Im not a big metal fan anymore. But I did see kill switched engaged and Dragon force about 3 months ago. They were pretty good. Except for the fact that everyone at the show seemed to be around 16 and it made me feel like an old man. And I am only 25.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:38 AM
@anonomousperson:

do we draw straws to pull that plug, or do we just let them be vegetables forever?

Posted by Slaytanic40oz - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:39 AM
i suggest beating their corpses for crimes against nature (load to present)

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:41 AM
hetman, i dig it. i specifically avoided the D-Force show here in Chi, cuz i didn't want to deal with all the ultra-hip kids trying force their affected ironic stance on the show.

Posted by anonomousperson - Thursday, December 20, 2007 10:52 AM
Good question. I would say put them in the Matrix and power our cities with their body heat. That way they can help relieve the pain of their epic fail to all their former fans. Help save us some money on electricity instead of giving refunds for their last few cds.

@fedaykin0. That is funny because that is probably the show I went to. I live in chi town It was at the House of blues. Its was a good show but their was definatly a lot kids running around. Good for them but I prefer to be at a concert where I can at least talk to some girls with out worrying about them being underage or even under 21 for that matter.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 11:02 AM
@hetman. palabra. you live in Chi? where?

Posted by Schizorogue - Thursday, December 20, 2007 11:07 AM
umm, can we say corporate sell-out? Such a shame too, cause i really liked mettalica in the 80's and 90's.

Metallica still rules

To attempt to have a discussion about great guitarists without including Zakk Wylde in the mix is just pure insanity.
