Chow Yun-Fat Joins Dragonball Z

Posted by Jonathan Hunt - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:25 PM

I have to say, for a movie based on a manga and trading card game, the Dragonball Z flick is accumulating quite the impressive cast of thespians. Announced today is the casting of Chow Yun-Fat of The Replacement Killers and Anna and the King fame.

Already cast in the film are Emmy Rossum of Songcatcher and James Marsters of The House on Haunted Hill. You know, looking back on it, they probably could have gotten some bigger name talent, like that guy from The Killer or that lady from Phantom of the Opera.

What do you think?

Looking really good... Can't wait to see it!

Posted by EAmaddenFTW - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:38 PM
I absolutely WILL see this movie...as a comedy. And I will LMAO into oblivion at the train wreck before my eyes.

Seriously, they should have done this movie with an advanced anime art style, or full CGI (a la FFVII: Advent Children) I can't imagine DBZ live action.

And Chow-Yun Fat huh? Who's he going to play? Mr. Popo? Master Roshi? LOL

Damn, this movie was rumored to be happening like 6 years ago, but now its finally coming to fruition, probably like 4 years too late?? I would've loved to see Jet Li as Vegetta, Jackie Chan as Goku, somehow make him younger, and Chow Young Fat as someone else cool. I dunno..... But that's sweet its happening for real..

Posted by electrox3d - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:52 PM
wait.. its based on a trading card game?

Posted by Hyphnip - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:03 PM
I've never heard of a DBZ trading card game.
Then again, I think that all those trading card games are lame so I don't really pay attention.
I want to see a Perfect Hair Forever movie!

Posted by Dr_Daddy - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:10 PM
Oddly enough is see potential in this movie.

Lets keep our fingers cross hoping it doesn't suck complete ass

I never really watched DBZ but im not knocking it. I think the movie can be done well. As long as they take it seriously. Once I we see a trailer we will have a better idea of which way they are going with the movie.

trading card game??? get your facts straight it was anime, the card game sucked and lasted a week. get your facts right thefeed this is like when you said sakurai was on a mexican radio show and i was like what hell is wrong with you and then a couple days later you said oops sorry we just reposted some retards facts that we assumed was true

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:48 PM
@ demonicdragon. Their is a difference between anime and manga. And they are technically right even if the CCG only lasted a week.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:52 PM
this movie is going to have to be ten hours long to accomodate all of the 'let me charge up my ultra cool power' scenes. and why the hell is piccolo a villain?! this IS supposed to be DBZ, right? of course, thefeed reported that, so he'll most likely just end up in background making tea, or something.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:54 PM
and i loooove how thefeed doesn't point out any of the martial arts films that Chow Yun-Fat has done. Crouching. . .something, Hidden. . .i don't know.

Dragon Ball will suck... Have you heard Goku will be a student???!!! He will fight with some bullies in a party where he will meet Chichi???!!!

Gosh... Why not name it: The Karate Kid with Superpowers!!!

My expectations have totally vanished...

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:02 PM
Didnt Picollo begin as the main bad guy in DBZ or was that just in DB where he is the main bad guy?

Posted by The_Juno - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:08 PM
Oh lord...no.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:08 PM
@hetman:

you are correct. he was against Goku until the other Saiyans showed up. which is what bothers me, as that happens in like the second episode.

Posted by yamato84 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:12 PM
ok first of all thefeed this is taking place before DBZ so the headline should just be Dragon Ball. Secondly Piccolo is going to be the villian because they are taking the premise from the King Piccolo Saga so NO VEGETA.

Now this movie is not going to be a carbon copy of the manga or the anime. This is going to be one of those movies similar to Super Mario Brothers where sure the movie has the name but it has nothing to do with the source material outside of the names of the characters, locations, and the relationships between the characters.

Here is why this movie will fail:

1) How the hell are they going to do their hair in live action?

2) No Super Sayains.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:27 PM
@TheRufio:

3) This franchise is no longer relevant.

Posted by TheRufio - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:30 PM
@fedaykin

4)It's a rumbled cartoon.

Posted by swifty_snail - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:31 PM
Holy Crap... some of you really need to see a naked woman in real life!!!

Posted by neonchez - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:31 PM
@yamato84

in other words, it's going to be a huge disappointment for the fans of the series. which i'm not one of, btw.

@swifty-snail

There are 23 positions in a one night stand.

Posted by Dr_Daddy - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 3:56 PM
@Pacman1979

IF what u say is true this will suck complete ass no doubt about it

Posted by Archonic20 - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 4:25 PM
CG DBZ movie = Possibility to be decent.

Real Life DBZ movie = fail (more than likely)

I don't think even Chow Yun-Fat could stop this train wreck.

I was kinda of scared of this movie at firat with Spike being Piccolo and Goku being some white kid, but this has definitely has peaked my interest now. Chow Yun-Fat made Bulletproof Monk bearable so maybe he can for this. I guess I'll find out next year. I hope a trailer comes out soon though.

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, December 19, 2007 7:49 PM
I agree bulletproof monk was bearable. It could have been so much worst. I think this movie can turn out good.

Posted by UnJakeable - Thursday, December 20, 2007 6:18 AM
This is gonna suck every thing hollywood does turns to crap. As a HUGE DBZ fan I NEVER want to see this series made into a movie. Theres just now way the could take the light hearted humor mixed with the over the top action and blend it together in real life. Why?? because real people don't go super sayain level 4 !!!

Posted by Vendetta187 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 6:49 AM
You little one gotta chillax for a second and take a breather.

First off everone is assuming and spiting out opinions without having any idea what you speak of. Give it a chance before you burn it to the ground.
Second, its a DRAGONBALL movie for goodness sake. wheather bad or good everyone of ya will watch it. even those of you posting bad comments about the movie before even seeing what it acually looks like.

it will be intresting to see where they go with it.

I predict Super Sayian Transformation at the very end battle scene leaving the movie open for sequels.

@Jakeeable
you have obviously never seen a big buget movie that has intergrated CGI with acually live action footage.
If hollywood can combine dinosaurs and human together and make it look real they can defenetly change black hair to yellow with ease.

:freakin' idiots, i swear:

If they can make the fighting scenes look like the one in matrix 3 (Neo and Smith fight). Then we have an exciting movie to wait for. Anything less would be sad.

Posted by Vendetta187 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 7:06 AM
real people dont turn super sayain 4, only sayains turn super sayain. DB dont show humans turning into sayains in the manga or series.
Why do you thing they'll do it in the movie. Just cause its live action doesnt mean there gonna make Goku and Gohan human they'll still be sayains. duh..

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 7:45 AM
Is picollo going to be green? @vendetta you are right Im not even a huge fan of DBZ but I will definatly watch this movie. Either it is going to good, or so bad that it is fun to watch. Either way it seems entertaing. I would like to see DB and make sure that goku has a tale.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:00 AM
@vendetta187:

yeah, good point. i'm sure ILM will be doing all the effects, so what do we have to worry about? toerag.

Posted by WilliVanilli - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:31 AM
1)you cannont, simply cannot have any super sayain anything in this movie.

2)its little goku, king piccolo, earth, and some people. no vegetta, no villain but king piccolo.

3)he doesn't go super sayain till the freiza saga (you all know that)

4)He doesn't have a kid in that period so no gohan.

5)he would have already met chi-chi.

this movie will probably suck if they make it like Super Mario Brothers but dammit, I'm seeing it anyway.

but seriously. who's chow yun fat gonna be? the closest thing to an asian in the series was Uub and he was black.

Posted by anonomousperson - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:31 AM
I gotta say. I hope the sequences follow the style that made the Dragonball series capture our imagination. Hopefully the cg of the buildings and mountains and Kamehameha waves of destruction look real and not like an afterthought. I wonder if Bulma will have greenish blue hair? Will she be a whore in the movie as well? Will her and Goku have a little tryst? Will Chi Chi's dad be the size of a Mac truck? Time answers all questions.

Posted by fedaykin0 - Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:51 AM
@WilliVanilli:

they're going to collect all the dragon balls and resurrect Li Mu Bai.

@ swifty_snail

Naked women and sex are not always the answer for everything.

Now, for my thoughts of this movie: the script better follow the King Piccolo saga the right way or it's gonna suck badly. Also, for ending, make sure it takes place when Goku and ChiChi get married, have a son named Gohan with a tail, and bring us a special surprise for a sequel: Raditz!

Posted by hetman - Thursday, December 20, 2007 11:50 AM
@FJR I beg to differ. Naked women and sex are always the answer to everything. Those two things and beer.

Posted by GreenQuadrant - Thursday, December 20, 2007 4:46 PM
Justin Chatwin as Goku? Well.... he does looks a little like him but he better pop alot of steroids because he's one skinny mofo.

Posted by ICP420EVA - Friday, December 21, 2007 11:46 PM
All of you are idiots. There is already a Live-Action DB movie out there. It was released in a Spanish dub quite a few years back.

Chow Yun-Fat is said to be playing Master Rosh
