Rumor: Activision Testing 'Guitar Hero IV'?

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, December 13, 2007 3:43 PM

We here at TheFeed received word from a reliable source that Activision is conducting testing for Guitar Hero IV already. The first round of testing is supposedly happening tomorrow and appears to be a small-scale test (4-6 people).

This could be testing downloadable content and the mention of Guitar Hero IV could be a mistake on the part of the firm conducting the test, but it could also mean that Guitar Hero IV may be closer than we think.

This would fit with recent comments made by Activision that Guitar Hero (along with Call of Duty and Tony Hawk) would be a franchise that is "exploited" yearly.

TheFeed is interested if this means that the plans for downloadable content support for GHIII are being put aside for another boxed release.

Activision was not available for comment as of press time, but we will update you with any statement they make on this topic.

Also, if they continue to use Roman numerals for this franchise then Guitar Hero IV will be abbreviated “GHIV”. LOL.

Sweet! I say you guys get a spy in there and tell us all about it! Is it more of the same, or something new for once?

@ Death

what, you dont want a new guitar hero every year. Um ok then. Because the only thing they have to do to keep the franchise going is to add different songs to each sequel. That SHOULD only take about a year. Maybe sme other additions and some gameplay touchups. Other than that there is really nothing to inprove upon.

That particular web comic speaks better than I could on this subject.

If the're just going 2 shovel out more sequels 2 make more $$ sooner then the franchise is already dead.

wow, this is possibly the most annoying news ive heard in a long time. Im pretty much done with music games at this point cuz there just gona keep making the same game with diferent songs. After the first 3 guitar heros (and rock the 80s) and rock band, im completly becoming sick of the genre. i do like how rock band is taking the DLC route instead of the release the same game every year one, because atleast that way i can buy individual songs that i want instead of being forced to buy them 70 at a time.

guitar zero.... all of you

You can't just swap out the songs and call it a new game. Like "Rocks the 80's," this plan is destined to fail. Establish wins that the competition has put forth (like the incredible stage work and crowd track from Rock Band) and then add some stuff of your own (refine the crowd interactivity, more buttons, better single player modes, songs with 3 and 4 guitars, support Rock Band peripherals... ). Activision did a lot of things right with GH3, but they also did a lot of things wrong. Hopefully they will take the time to fix these things before they release a new one.

Regardless, Activision has been in the news alot lately, and it hasn't been very good. I think I'll be sticking to Harmonix products until Activision gets over their money love.

Is anyone else done with this guitar hero crap. The first couple were fun but i am done with it. It just seems now that it is like that WOW music cd they sell on tv. You are just going to have new games every year with new songs. Nothing will change as far as gameplay. Lets face it, with this kind of game you are kind of limited with what you can do with it.

just give me a FPS i'd rather be curb-stompin folks!!

It is not a bad idea but it is not a good idea either. At least in games like madden they do tweak the graphics and gameplay besides just updating the roster. But seriously with the ability to dload and update information their really is no need to release a new GH every year.

For those of you who said sweet... F off... This makes me upset... I was just talking to a friend of mine about GH3 and the lack of download content. Yet, Rock Band is getting alot of love and Activision is testing GH4. What the hell... They need to focus on whats out now. Oh and by the way. Are they going to use the same engine for graphics and game play then charge $59.99 for the game... There is no need for another GH right now...

@SeanGE

I understand they got some good songs, but until Led Zep lets them use at least heartbreaker, I will not and you all should not, they could be doing everything they can to get the rights, instead of doling out these bore-fest.

GHIV? I don't get it.

i'm so dumb.

The only way I'd buy that is if they actually put some decent metal on there. I say SoaD would do good on there. Either that or Rock Band II. I'd love to see System on one of these games.

i only think that guitar hero IV willbe as shallow as the rest of activision's games.
i heard they are with blizzard, so hopefully that will add something interesting to the game.

MORE VAN HALEN!
too bad ACDC wont let out their music...

Guitar Hero IV already.
When does it come out?
Rock ON!!!!

Making downloadable songs is a acceptable option. Releasing a game every 20 minutes is not

i just hope that guitar hero IV wont turn out bad seeing how they have their hands full with this also:

Posted by johnny9101 - Monday, March 03, 2008 6:24 AM
will you guy's shut the hell up i think it's a great thing that there's one new one every year plus a special game like Guitar Hero: AEROSMITH dont be so worried harmonix will come back if Neversoft and Activision get out of hand so sit there quietly and watch the outcome of this damn sittuation ok

I have discover a solution to the problems of GHIV and Rockband 2!

Guitar = Good, Rockband = Good, therfore:
Guitar Hero x Rockband = Guitar Band = Good squared

Posted by auzzie560 - Wednesday, May 28, 2008 6:40 AM
well, the way i see it is this:
guitar hero is an awsome game by far one of the best ever made.
but i really think that if u start mixing rock band with guitar hero it'll just defeat the purpose of guitar hero!
im mean it'll be cool but isnt guitar hero just about the guitars???
i think it sucks that there just now focusing on the drums on guitar hero!
jeez........................ ..

i think its awesome, real drummers that i know who can't even play the guitar on gh are going to finally be happy to play gh because now it has drums, i don't care that the title is called guitar hero and they add drums in it, all i care about it the game play which is already amazingly fun, plus the fact you can create your own songs in this and do battle of the bands, i mean why not thats awesome

wat he said!!!!!dip's

GHIV is gonna be sweet! i heard that they are gonna have the drums and everything! i'm talkin drums with elevated symbols, not just 4 circle pads like rock band. and its supposed to be online. u will beable to play solo against others or u can create a band and play against other bands! if all of this is true, then it will be SWEET! otherwise yes, just more lame songs.

Posted by bpak_33 - Thursday, July 10, 2008 1:15 AM
lol, sry... i didn't read these other 4-5 comments about the drums, lol i guess thats old news now. lol
