'Mass Effect' Sells 1 Million in 3 Weeks

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 10:51 AM

After initial reports of slow week 1 sales, it appears that Mass Effect is selling well.

In just 3 weeks of release, Mass Effect has hit the 1 million copies sold watermark.

This means those planned sequels are probably sure things, though with EA's new ownership of Bioware, it'll be interesting to see if MS remains the publisher and if it even remains a 360 exclusive (we're betting it will).

this game is sooo boring. i watsed60 bucks on the slowest game ever. looks nice but its really grainy and out of focus most the time

Posted by IBangedYourMOM - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 10:58 AM
Wasted** sorry

Turn off film grain in the options.
It does run slow, though :(

I liked Mass Effect a lot. It is a RPG and not an action game though. I think people are confusing that part. The atmosphere of the game really drew me in and it was a nice change after finishing COD4.

Woot! Mass Effect owns!

@IBangedYourMOM

Of course it's slow...it's suppose to be. If you don't like the game then go and play your Gaylo 3 with all your other little screaming kid friends. God I hate kids.

I personally thought this was one of the best games to come out in years, the more I play it the more I can't wait to beat it so I can play it again, lol.

What makes Mass Effect great is a world that feels real and a story that does more than string a bunch of actions sequences together. A big failing in games like Call of Duty and Halo series is that the story is an afterthought and only serves to put you in the next fire fight. Games like Bioshock and Halflife do a better job with the story but still not as good as Mass Effect.

it's no oblivion

This is no surprise - with the perfect amount of both quality and hype, any game can sell a million. Mass Effect and BioWare deserve it, too.

Should I buy ME or not?

Posted by Schizorogue - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:40 PM
yeah but wtf is up with all the texture pop-ins? I mean the game is good, but should of stayed in the oven a little longer. KOTOR it is not.

Posted by realitysux21 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:52 PM
^yea takes a LOOONG time to for the texture to load
one time it didnt even load (when u first see the geth stalker when ur about to go on the mako in noveria)

BUT this game is nothing short of amazing
with the story and all the side missions (though the first time around i blasted through the main story in 19 hours because the story was absolutley crazy and made me kill to see what happens next)
and when your done with the game
u WILL definately want to play atleast 3 more times to see what would happen in the story (ie. SPOILER... what happens of u DONt kill the council)

Great game so far. I'm taking my time and Great job Bio Ware.

Posted by chriseastsidedc - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 1:17 PM
the game was definately one of my all time favs. just like mutantenemymtl said, the story was in deeper than pretty much any other game i ever heard of. not only could you just go around talking to key characters and learn about their race, past, and their current objectives, but you could also pause the game and go to the codex and learn about a lot more that happened to humanity over the years leading up to the starting point of the game. its obvious BioWare put a lot of thought into the whole universe of the game, i hope more games come out that do the same.

Possible spoiler so don't whine..........Any game where you as the character have the opportunity to tap some blue alien @ss is awesome....I don't care who you are.....

Awesome game, Awesome system!

Posted by random_luigi07 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 1:43 PM
I know this is off topic but is there a KOTOR 3 in the works. That game has an awesome storyline, but i dont see it on next years line-up.

Posted by random_luigi07 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 1:46 PM
@ massive1880 do we really need to bring consoles into this, yes its a great and its on a good system, i think everyone knows that.

Good to hear the public having some sense. Now if EA would be nice enough to make it multiplatform...

Posted by realitysux21 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 1:50 PM
^MS would never let tht happen

Posted by staychisel - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 2:12 PM
question: has any ps3 game sold over a million yet? i really have no idea and am just curious.

Posted by random_luigi07 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 2:17 PM
@staychisel no but nice put down on the ps3.

Posted by The55PercentCrew - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 2:22 PM
I'm sure it will stay an exclusive or at least stay on the 360. They promised that the saves will carry over.

Posted by ShinGino - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 5:09 PM
Graphics wise, the heads look good, but the rest is average. It has some filter effects, but it has horrible frames(the 360 has reached its limit as its engine barely keeps up). Overall gameplay is slow.

I don't think PS3 owners would want this game in the first place.

Posted by G4mach10 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 7:11 PM
what u must understand is that this is no galyo 3. its action is intended to be slow like RE4s was, its just fits

Posted by insight2881 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 10:36 PM
It is a great game and yes it is on a great system. Just like MGS4 is on a great system. Just like SM Galaxy is on a...no wait thts just a great game. Oh and IBangedYourMOM Mr. Stevens says sorry for pretending to be Gary's mom...\@(o-o)@/

Posted by insight2881 - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 10:40 PM
He also said he'll never forget tht night...but anyway Half life story just pulled me right on n. But its not as great as Mass Effect...I really love the fact tht its about space, me being a trekkie and all.
