Oh, Oh, New show idea. Topless Computer Assembly. Or at least bikini full contact Computer Assembly. . . ;)

Posted by ManOfTeal - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:01 PM
@altizar

I think that is an outstanding show idea.....we could have Layla and Morgan duke it out over who can build the best PC in the fastest amount of time and the loser has to wrestle Olivia.......WOOT!!!!

Posted by Zdooby - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:07 PM
680i dont support ddr 3 lol

Posted by tachFX - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:11 PM
If its the Ultimate gaming PC. then why are they using two 8800GT gpu's, when the 8800Ultra's are still faster then these cards. The 8800GT cards are slighty slower than the GTX's at stock speeds overclocked they are faster but still slower than the ULTRAs. The GT is just cheaper but they clearly were not trying to be on a budget

Posted by Zdooby - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:16 PM
and there not using a QX9650

Posted by tachFX - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:20 PM
Yeah but the QX9650 is still hard to get and they have to overclock to really get the full benefit of that processors high bus speed, especially since they have a new MOBO that uses DDR3 that I didn't even know it existed from nvidias chipset

WOW! there's nothing hotter then listening to Morgan talk computer hardware. she's absolutely ridiculous!

Posted by Zdooby - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:28 PM
yea i just looked around and dont see any mention of ddr3 support on the 680i's your right about the ultras much faster and no matter what they wont get much out of sli with crysis yet and isn't sli scalable link interface?

Posted by tachFX - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:46 PM
Why is it they never show the case from its open window on the side it's the best part of that case. I hope they don't run this on air it's kinda embarissing using parts that don't work together I bet that would have been a nice blooper when Morgan tries to install the RAM module and it doesn't fit

Posted by Zdooby - Monday, November 26, 2007 2:58 PM
LOL i see it now "sorry guys the ram doesn't fit were gonna take a quick brake and get this sorted out"

You can cut about $1500 off the price by going w/DDR2 and scaling down the processor just a twinge. My computer is a very similar build (even the same case) and cost about $1,700 back in January of this year.

Posted by adenread - Monday, November 26, 2007 7:45 PM
lol what about the OS!

Posted by phlacker - Monday, November 26, 2007 8:18 PM
altizar's got the right idea... despite the nitpicking, having Morgan Webb talk hardware is pretty hot. Now including Layla and Olivia is just pornographic. How can we get this ball rolling?

Posted by tachFX - Monday, November 26, 2007 8:39 PM
@irmacguyver

I wish Yoshi was still on G4 but he made custom case mods and lots of cool crazy stuff he would have been more then what they needed for this project (are they even giving this away or is Morgan keeping it I have not heard of a gaming PC contest since AOTS first year)

@1mikeg
the point is not the cost it's the fact that only the X38 motherboards support DDR3, they are using a 680i. They spent extra money on something they can't even use. TO make matters worse they probably won't even mention what ram they really use (hey what GPU do you run, my system is pretty much the same specs as this except i use Giel black dragon ram)

Posted by tedcwilliams - Monday, November 26, 2007 9:22 PM
That computer's nice and all, but it doesn't top my Apple IIc. That computer makes Oregon Trail and Number Munchers look AMAZING!!!

Posted by neonchez - Monday, November 26, 2007 10:28 PM
damn, she could barely left that monstrosity. i was really hoping that she would drop it. would have been hilarious.

@Zdooby
Scan Line Interleave was basically the origin of the concept behind both nVidia's Scalable Link Interface and ATI's Crossfire.

But yeah, you're right; she should have said Scalabe Link Interface...

lol what a joke,yea Morgan's hot and all,but i wish they would have showed her trying to get it to boot.any way an 8800gtx is faster then 2 gt's and who really needs a 1000 watt ps? amd's x2 6000+ will run anything extremly smooth at a fraction of the intel quad cores price,and spending more then 500 bucks on ram is not needed at all,you can get an area 51 for about 3 grand and it will smoke that heap and actually come with a warranty.way to go on giving bad advice,stick to video game reviews...please.

Posted by tachFX - Tuesday, November 27, 2007 5:02 PM
@steelslug
the amd X2 6000+ plus is only as fast as a midrange Intel CORE 2. CRYSIS actually really benefits from quad as it is completely multi-threaded. Plus this PC at this price will completely out run an Alien ware Area 51 PC at the same price point. And the GTX's are only 10% faster than a GT, it's 25-35% faster than a GTS there is no way that two of any of these cards is slower than a single GTX. Especially when overclocked the GT is only slower than the ULTRAS which are 15% faster than a GTX

Oh god i love it when she talks nerdy

Posted by WTFGreg - Wednesday, November 28, 2007 10:04 AM
How does this get a green light to air? As much as I enjoy G4, this is an elementary mistake and should have been caught.

DDR3 will not work on that motherboard, nor that chipset on any motherboard using it. Factor that in with the price difference between DDR3 and DDR2 and G4 made a $600 mistake.

The choice of video cards wasn't nearly as confusing as the recommendation of incompatible RAM. Let's go G4, hire an editor or at least give a couple of kids at the local LAN center a few T shirts to proof read and watch this stuff before it's aired.

Other than that, I can't quit you G4 TV!

I can't even find the Corsair memory kit they used in DDR3. Newegg has a Corsair kit in DDR2 that looks like what they used. It's also listed for a little under $500, a bit less than the ~$700 they said theirs cost.

Hey Morgan, the PC you made on the X-play special 'The Ultimate Gaming PC' was awesome. All my friends have these insane gaming PCs and are always talking about games like Crysis and how fun they are and I'm always left out saying stuff like "yeah I seen that on G4." I know I would love to be a gamer and I love watching the show and seeing all these cool games coming out. The only thing is, is that I have a super old crappy Dell that doesn't do much besides microsoft word and I cant afford to buy a new PC. I know this is a big wish, or a huge favor but if at all possible is there a way I could get that PC. It would be the best Christmas gift ever, and I know no one would appreciate it as much as me. It would mean more to me than you could ever imagine, and would literally change my life. Well I gave it a shot, and it would be awesome if you gave me a chance to be like all the rest of my friends and join in on the fun of gaming. Later Morgan!

Went to ibuypower and built a sweet computer. 3 weeks later and filing with bbb I have a temporary credit to my credit card. They don't answer their phones or emails! They suck! So I see this video and don't agree that this stuff is all compatible and know that I am out of my league trying to put together a sweet gaming machine. WHO DOES PUT TOGETHER A GOOD MACHINE? Pleeeeaaaasssseeee we want to play on a good machine and know we can't put it together. There has to be a business that sells gaming machines that are monsters. I was ready to check Dell, but now I am questioning if they would have all the updated tech to do it.

don't go with Dell!!!! cuz if you ever want to upgrade your computer you have to go though Dell...and that's how they get ya. if you go out and buy a new graphics card....and you try and install it into your computer...you will have problems. i have been told this by many people. that's why im going to build my own monster PC....im going to have a friend walk me though how to put it together :S so..this is going to be interesting LMAO

Holy!!!! FU@%ing Crap thats My computer!!!! ...Well I used a 8800Ultra and I have 2 500gig Hard drives, and my heat sink is way sexier and bigger (had to look good in the glass window on the side of the tower) and I have different ram sticks. But tower, possessor, mother board, power, are all the same. And I only paid 1500.00 at newegg for it all! so screw there 4,000.00 dollar budget! Mine is bigger faster and has a hard drive 3 times as huge!

And On a side note I want to see naked PC building to!
