I think that is an outstanding show idea.....we could have Layla and Morgan duke it out over who can build the best PC in the fastest amount of time and the loser has to wrestle Olivia.......WOOT!!!!
I wish Yoshi was still on G4 but he made custom case mods and lots of cool crazy stuff he would have been more then what they needed for this project (are they even giving this away or is Morgan keeping it I have not heard of a gaming PC contest since AOTS first year)
@1mikeg
the point is not the cost it's the fact that only the X38 motherboards support DDR3, they are using a 680i. They spent extra money on something they can't even use. TO make matters worse they probably won't even mention what ram they really use (hey what GPU do you run, my system is pretty much the same specs as this except i use Giel black dragon ram)
Scan Line Interleave was basically the origin of the concept behind both nVidia's Scalable Link Interface and ATI's Crossfire.
But yeah, you're right; she should have said Scalabe Link Interface...
the amd X2 6000+ plus is only as fast as a midrange Intel CORE 2. CRYSIS actually really benefits from quad as it is completely multi-threaded. Plus this PC at this price will completely out run an Alien ware Area 51 PC at the same price point. And the GTX's are only 10% faster than a GT, it's 25-35% faster than a GTS there is no way that two of any of these cards is slower than a single GTX. Especially when overclocked the GT is only slower than the ULTRAS which are 15% faster than a GTX
DDR3 will not work on that motherboard, nor that chipset on any motherboard using it. Factor that in with the price difference between DDR3 and DDR2 and G4 made a $600 mistake.
The choice of video cards wasn't nearly as confusing as the recommendation of incompatible RAM. Let's go G4, hire an editor or at least give a couple of kids at the local LAN center a few T shirts to proof read and watch this stuff before it's aired.
Other than that, I can't quit you G4 TV!

And On a side note I want to see naked PC building to!
