Rumor Alert! A reader tip given to the guys over at Engadget could point to write-once memory cards from SanDisk.
If true, the technology would basically function as a CD-R or DVD-R, but write as you go. This means the card would store pictures, video, or data until it was full and then be locked with that content.
This would apparently allow the cards to be sold extremely cheap with thoughts that we could get 1GB for $5.99.
Remember how CD-RW and DVD-RW didn't really catch on because the write-once alternatives became so cheap it wasn't really cost effective to pay for the ability to overwrite data? Yeah, that could be happening.
