FOX Keepin' It All In The Family?

Posted by Frank Meyer - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:39 AM

So how is FOX dealing with the writer’s strike when it comes to animated shows like Family Guy?

By carrying on without the creator and writers, that’s how!

Yep, it turns out that despite creator/writer/voice-master Seth MacFarlane pledge that last week’s "Lois Kills Stewie" episode was the last episode completed before he joined the Writers Guild strike, FOX is planning on running a brand new Family Guy, "Padre de Familia,” this Sunday.

So how did they finish it without the guy who writes and voices most of the characters? Well, it turns out that FOX and the show's production studio 20th Century Fox TV are doing the final work without him on this one, and potentially three other episodes MacFarlane says "relatively close to completion" before the strike began.

Legally, the network and studio can do this, says MacFarlane, but "it would just be a colossal d*ck move."

Well, colossal d*cks they must be, ‘cause FOX is doin’ it.

"They've never done anything like this before, in which they've said, 'We're going to finish a show without you,'” added MacFarlane. “It's really going to be unfortunate and damaging to our relationship if they do it."

But can FOX really damage its rep any worse than when it cancelled the show for two years, only to bring it back only after DVD sales proved there was an audience (which, of course, we already knew...you know, being that audience)?

Dude, I hate to say it, but these creeps will take your dang show away from you if they see you as a liability. Just ask John K about his Ren & Stimpy run-ins with Nick….and then cry….

if they do it then family guy may not go back into seths hands, then itll suck.

Posted by swifty_snail - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:53 AM
What do you mean "then it'll suck"

Posted by random_luigi07 - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:56 AM
i hate fox. they suck elephant balls...real hard too

Posted by ManOfTeal - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:59 AM
I thought I heard that writer's on animated shows were not included in the strike......

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 12:02 PM
Screw the writters. There has to be plenty of funny people out there. Anyways hire those guys and let the writters get real jobs like mowing my lawn if they are not happy writting.

random, i agree full heartedly, except they suck herpy infected elephant balls, since they axed firefly, Box network should just crawl in a hole and die. I vote for a boycott of fox until they put more good shows back on the air (like Firefly, Drive, The Winner, Futurama... the list goes on of good shows they axed) So any one who opposes me will die, Fox needs to get fraqed or stop takin to testicals

Posted by bleahy - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 12:04 PM
Yes, there are funny people out there. Except when funny people put words onto paper, they are writers.

Just like any other strike, crossing picket lines is a really bad idea if you actually want to work in that industry.

Wow no television...gosh how horrid the world would be without our daily does of mindless brainwashing....

Posted by CosmoBubba - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 12:37 PM
I like my daily doses of mindless brainwashing, thank you very much.

And this has all the potential of being like that "wrong-sounding Muppets" joke that Family Guy did once.

I actually think it's a good thing. More power to them.

Posted by nintendopwnsallbitch - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 12:45 PM
thell do just fine as long as the manitees dont go on strike

Posted by Curare - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 12:57 PM
Thats fine. Wheres Futurama?

Posted by StrongestSaiyan - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 1:17 PM
I really hope that this works because I'll be very unhappy when the episodes suck. I agree with Seth McFarlane that while they could finish the episodes, it's a dick move.

its not family guy without seth. people at fox are a bunch of retards if they think that. seth should just stay at cartoon network. fox wouldnt even have the show again if it wasnt for them

Posted by colourings - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 1:55 PM
LOL!

How the hell can you make Family Guy without the Guy?

FOX is something else, I swear.

Posted by liquisoft - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 2:06 PM
This doesn't even make sense. Say what you will about Family Guy, but taking over the writing and production of any series without the creator, primary voice actor, and lead writer seems downright retarded.

Posted by djbfzero - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 2:23 PM
Family Guy's been lame for 2 years now. Bring back Futurama.

I will say this though, to continue without McFarlane would be interesting, in that cringing while watching kind of way.

I actually cant wait to see how bad fox messes up. I wanna see if I can notice the difference between the 2. He did say they were almost complete so there probably wasnt to many things they needed to do storyline wise, so who knows. Dick move yes but Im just happy to have something to watch next sunday night.

Posted by Faol - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 3:03 PM
I heard that futurama will be back in 2008, but its supposed to be on comedy central. But getting back to the topic at hand........FOX YOU ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOST IGNORANT PEOPLE IN HISTORY IF YOU MAKE ANY EPISODES WITHOUT SETH MACFARLENE AND I BELIEVE A RETARDED MONKEY WITH A BRAIN TUMOR COULD BE BETTER AT YOUR JOBS THAN YOU. with that said I wish all the luck in the world to Seth Macfarlene because if fox screws him he is going to need it.

This is kind of strange...

The Writers Guild allows animation writers to continue working on their shows during the strike.

"Most animated shows are covered by a different union from the Writers Guild and are unaffected by the WGA strike. In addition, the WGA has withdrawn objections to its members working in animation."

http://www.reuters.com/artic le/filmNews/idUSN0640254920071 107

"When the WGA struck three weeks later, it had quietly altered the strike rules so that WGA members would allowed to write animated features under IATSE contracts."

So in some ways, this is McFarlane's choice.

Family Guy salutes TV at the 2007 Emmys

Here's an idea.

EVERYONE WHO IS PISSED BY THIS SEND AN E-MAIL TO SOMEONE AT FOX. Check out newscorp.com and look at their executives and contacts and take your pick.

BITCHING AND MOANING ABOUT THIS ON G4'S SITE IS POINTLESS. SEND SOME PISS AND VINEGAR THEIR WAY!

Posted by TripWire777 - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 4:51 PM
Dude just leave Fox and sign on with G4tv... god knows they need it...

Posted by MTCesquire - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 5:24 PM
The article said he wasn't under contract with Fox. If that's the case, if he feels the need, couldn't he just take that & American Dad over to another network? I'm pretty sure CBS, ABC, or NBC would be happy to snatch the show up (especially NBC, which is basically a wasteland of crap programming right now).

Posted by Faol - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 10:54 PM
Seth Mafarlene isn't under contract by fox, which means he can stop making Family Guy at any time he pleases, however Fox owns the rights to both Family Guy and American Dad so he couldn't take those with him if he goes to another station, so he would essentially have to start over from scratch with a new show. I guess you could almost say he sold his first born (and second born)son to devil. All I have to say is that is Seth is no longer involved with these 2 shows, I won't watch them anymore, and I think a lot of people would agree with me.

Posted by JixHedgehog - Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:10 PM
Well, sounds like they still have 3 episodes to go, so we'll find out what really happens in December

Posted by S2Ghost - Thursday, November 15, 2007 8:08 AM
Once again Fox screws up another good show and keeps their title as the worst company on earth. They will probably cancel the show again and put another BS reality show on. YOU SUCK FOX!

Posted by Tetsu15 - Thursday, November 15, 2007 4:34 PM
i just watch family guy. as long as it is good
i don't care who makes it.

ps. i hope the writers strike ends. reruns suck
