Rapper Mr. Tan has been in the game for a minute, having started off as part of the duo Da Phat Pak with Ms. Toi (she of Ice Cube’s “We Can Do It”) before they were both enlisted in the all-star group Militia. Alongside Lord G, Diz and Deviuz, the duo scored a major hit with the West Coast anthem “Burn” off their self-titled major label debut. A few years later they changed their name to Militia All-Stars and released the indie effort, Comin At Cha. Along the way, Tan toured as a hype man with Tash of Tha Liks, rapped alongside heavyweights such as Kool Keith, Snoop Dogg and Tyryse, and co-starred in the film Baby Boy. Mr. Tangy (as he likes to call himself) was kind enough to stop by The Engine Room in Hollywood to drop some off-the-top rhymes and chat about what it takes to freestyle. He came armed with mucho energy and charm, and was a pleasure to work with. But don’t worry, it wasn’t all hugs and handshakes, the dude came hard!
