Hackers 'Fix' 'Manhunt 2'

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, November 01, 2007 2:07 PM

Yesterday, it was rumored that hackers had "fixed" the PSP version of Manhunt 2, by removing the violence-filter on at least one of the ultra-violent action game's more objectionable scenes. Today, Rockstar Games confirmed that the work-around exists:

"Hackers apparently have altered one of those edits to produce an illegally modified version of the game that can only be played on an unauthorized, modified PlayStation Portable handheld system," Rockstar reportedly said.

According to Rockstar, most of the filtering remains intact, but even if that's true, TheFeed is surprised that, after the fallout from the Hot Cofee imbroglio, Rockstar would ever let anything like this happen again, even in a limited way.

Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick said, “I stand behind the game and the ESRB ratings process. It is unfortunately the case that no one in the entertainment software industry is immune from hacking. We hope that consumers will not engage in hacking or download illegally modified copies of our games. We encourage them to enjoy our games as they are meant to be played. We would also like to emphasize that Manhunt 2 is intended for an audience aged 17 and above.”

There cartoonish blobs. I've seen R rated movies with real people that have worse. The only reason why people find it bad is because it's a video games and when people think of video games they think that it's a kids hobby even though the average gamer is in there 30's.

so? the hack takes a great deal of time, effort knowledge and an unathourized psp to do. besides its illigal

How the hell is this Rockstar's fault?

The game people purchase is censored. Unless the game comes with built-in tools to enable the content, I fail to see how Rockstar is liable in the slightest.

Somehow the code for really bad stuff is always left behind in Rockstar's games, just waiting for hackers to find it.

good I mean why do they always wanna edit games? it's annoying

Posted by 1mikeg - Thursday, November 1, 2007 4:14 PM

Saw this coming a mile away. Rockstar should grow a pair, release the damn unedited version, and have it for purchase as an online only and select retailers. Screw Wal-Mart.

"...after the fallout from the Hot Cofee imbroglio..."

Was there really any fallout? They continued to sell a ton of games and carry on as business as usual.

the game looks like crap

Posted by tays014 - Thursday, November 1, 2007 8:08 PM

Its weird how Rockstar games always have hidden scenes oh well its what they want to make so let them make it

Posted by panzerfist - Thursday, November 1, 2007 8:56 PM

Its their loophole into the whole censor thing. Though they shouldn't really need it

Posted by JDarkley - Thursday, November 1, 2007 11:20 PM

NC-17 movies never get banned from movie theaters, why should AO games get banned from stores? The fact that Rockstar was forced to tone this game down is ridiculous enough, I don't mind seeing the the original content, even through a hack or a mod.
@ R3TARDED_DOG, if you don't care about this game, don't comment.

Kids should not watch porn. Kids should not watch violence. Steps are taken to prevent it but guess what? Kids still watch porn and violence. So who gives? Porn on the net and violence on tv. Ppl just target videogames just to do it. No company should have to censore anything, just put different ratings. This sint Rockstars fault. Nuf said.

Rockstar is anything but Rockstars, if you would have told Iggy or ozzy or Led or Morrison to cut back on what they were doling out in their prime, they would have told you to go kcuf yourself and Rock out even harder.KCUF Rockstar. and I say that after they bitched about the Simpsons game.Bitches.
and G4 what the kcuf, I can't type in Morrison's first name?why?Oh, hold on, I got you. miJ Morrison, hows that you censoring bitches, and you all have the nerve to post about Rockstar censoring and you gnikcuf worst.

Maybe I'm missing the part where we talk about how enthralling the Manhunt 2 story is, or how an all-star cast of voice actors was assembled for this next-gen ground breaking piece of popular culture art. Or the amazing soundtrack, or the graphics, or the multiplayer, or the customization, or the intuitive gameplay, or...I mean we're talking about the same super-awesome kick-ass game here, aren't we?

I'm going to take out my frustrations on GTA cops with the purple jelly dong. Now that's art!

I want a game console that plays ALL TYPES OF GAMES!

I want the full game and not some watered down version for kids.

I blame Nintendo, MS, and Sony for not allowing all types of games on their system.

And Sony, allow AO games if you want me to buy your $600 door stop.

HA! They did this specifically because of the Hot Coffee mod. This bit of info gets out, people are going to go nuts buying Manhunt 2.

Posted by excaleranth - Friday, November 2, 2007 9:48 PM

...who cares? they just turned off the color changer so that you have a better chance of not having a siezure. whoop-dee-doo.
