'Guitar Hero III' Announces Tie-Ins

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, October 24, 2007 7:47 AM

Activision announced the product tie-ins that will give Guitar Hero III the authenticity of today's corporate-sponsored music scene. Rock and/or roll!

Products appearing in the game include: Gibson, Guitar Center Audio-Technica, Crate, Ernie Ball, Krank, Line 6, Mackie and Zildjian. Alternative Press, Decibel, Guitar Player, Kerrang and Paste magazines will also show up. All that plus, for some reason, Axe and Pontiac.

"By forging exclusive relationships with key companies in the music and consumer packaged goods industries we are able to bring an even greater depth of realism to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock," said Dave Anderson, sr. director of business development for Activision. "From venues like Pontiac Garage, to customized guitars from Axe, the game delivers the ultimate rock and roll experience."

Axe like the body spray? I wonder if I can find and Axe edition Pontiac. That would kick so much ass.

I'm sorry, but the effing Pontiac Garage and Axe body spray are the exact opposite of any kind of rock and roll experience. They better salvage this claim by having the Guitar Hero controllers somehow destroy your liver and give you herpes everytime you play.

This doesn't exactly look too promising. .

how is this bad? its just product placement! it happens in EVERYTHING now. companies pay to have their product placed in a game or movie or tv show and the company has that money to put into it making it better.
i hardly see how a venue named after pontiac or a guitar with the axe logo on it affects the quality of the game.
who cares?!

haha, the quote should have read:

"By forging exclusive relationships with key companies in the music and consumer packaged goods industries we are able to make a lot of money."

This sucks. Why is it that i cant do anything without something being sold to me. Guitar Hero, you suck.

I love my Axe.

It's strategy. If the game goes down in a spectacular fireball, the developers have the money all the companies gave them for in-game advertisements to fall back on.

In translation, "We've thrown in a bunch of product placement right at the last minute that will seem jarring and out place since it wasn't part of the original art design during development. This will help us to recoup the cost of purchasing licensed songs and will make game sales a more 'pure' profit. Screw you consumer."

Also, "Get five stars on all songs on expert to unlock the newest Axe body spray commercial. It's a rock and roll fantasy!"

a good and what i think t!ts feature in this game would be to create your own guitar or something but i wouldnt mind haveing a gibson guitar either lol

Well, the Pontiac Garage venue is actually pretty cool, and there are plenty of guitars to go around, and they're a lot more diverse than in the previous two iterations. Still haven't unlocked everything, but there are a lot of things Red Octane has done right with GH3.
