Real-Life 'PacMan'

Posted October 17, 2007 - By Stephen Johnson

This one time in 1984, TheFeed was so high off pixie styx and angel dust in our local arcade, we thought we were in Robotron 2040. We ran around screaming "pew pew pew" before the cops hauled us away.

If you want to be inside an arcade game yourself, but you don't want to abuse illegal drugs or be beaten with the po-po's nightsticks, we suggest the Pac-Man Plus life-size Pac Man art exhibit being created at the Plus International Design Festival.

Here's how it works: A player dressed as Pac-Man will enter a human-sized maze, and lying in wait will be two ghosts - Blinky and Inky. Pac-Man's movements will then be directed via a one-way headset linked to another player outside the maze (the Controller), who will be watching the action top-down on a large projection screen. The goal of the game for Pacman and his Controller will be to collect the four Powerpills inside the maze and then stay alive! The high score table beckons....

Is it art? Ludicrousness? Fun? Who knows? Who Cares?
