Steve LeRoy, an inventor, has created a device that can harness the power of lightning and turn it into usable energy.
The device is a small scale proof-of-concept and can utilize 3-foot bolts to power a 60-watt light bulb for 20 minutes.
LeRoy believes, however, that a full-scale version of the device would be capable of powering 30,000 homes for an entire day from 1 bolt of lightning.
This probably wouldn't be too useful in sunny Southern California where it never rains. Most of the country and world could use this technology to ease dependence on other sources of energy.
