The next game-to-film adaptation to come down the pike might well be a big-screen adaptation of popular MMO EverQuest, and, to that end, Columbia Pictures has hired Michael Gordon, the man who adapted 300 for the silver screen, to write a screenplay for the movie.
We already knew that former Marvel head man Avi Arad was going to serve as a producer on the film, but this hiring definitely brings the EverQuest film much, much closer to fruition. So, we'll see if the MMO turns out to be a fruitful ground for entertainment, or another failed videogame-to-film project.
