Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, Kimo von Oelhoffen, Marques Tuiasosopo, heck, even Brandon Manumaleuna. These are household names here in America, but did you know they were from American Samoa? That's right, there is a ton of football talent in Samoa, and one high school football coach is being investigated for illegally recruiting kids from the territory to come and play ball in the Continental U.S.
Apparently, the coach of the Franklin High Yellowjackets in Stockton, CA, flew in players from Samoa, paid for them to stay in motels, and got them fake utility bills to prove residency, so they could play for the football team, which made marked improvements over the years.
Now, we'd be behind the times if we didn't acknowledge that high school recruiting goes on all the time, no matter how much the world denies it. Still, it's kind of fracked that people are being shipped in from other countries to play the game.
Plus, if we were going to recruit Samoans, it would be for a wrestling team. Perhaps you've heard of The Rock? Samoa Joe? Enough said, right? If you smell what TheFeed is cooking.
