Microsoft Working on Epic FPS Technology

Have you ever thought to yourself... Hey Self, this 32 player Counter-Strike game is cool, but I wish it could be more epic... like 1000 players at once...

Well the boys at M'Soft are working on something code-named "DonnyBrook" that would allow for such awesomeness.

The reason you haven't seen something quite like this (other than in Planetside) is a problem with bandwidth.  Every single player would need tremendous upload bandwidth capacity to be able to keep themselves up-to-date with everyone and everything else on the map.

"DonnyBrook" would solve this by creating "focus sets" which would only constantly update the players that were immediately around you/ interacting with you.  Everyone else would get your update every few frames.

Pretty awesome stuff.
