Luke's 'Saber Headed For Space

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, August 28, 2007 2:21 PM

The original prop lightsaber from Star Wars will be headed to space on board the Shuttle Discovery, as part of the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the movie. That's not the geekiest thing about it, laws no! That would be the fact that the lightsaber will be handed off to the astronaut who will keep it safe in space by a man dressed in a Chewbacca suit.

Had enough geekery? Not by miles, son. How about the fact that the prop will be escorted by a batallion of costumed stormtroopers and R2-D2 and a parade of Hummers? Are you starting to get the feel for what sort of event this will be yet? Yeah, we thought so. We would just like to see the footage of the new astronauts in their polo shirts playing with a lightsaber during moments of anti-gravity. Perhaps while chasing balls of soup through the air.

Wouldn't that be fun?

Does anyone really give a s*** anymore? I mean, what a cow the Star Wars franchise has become. We can all thank Farmer Lucas for that and for low birth rates.

This seems more like a ploy to distract people from the fact that the space program has made very little progress comparatively speaking.
