Recently, TheFeed reported that Paramount and DreamWorks will be releasing their DVDs exclusively on HD-DVD, and we wondered why, especially given that Blu-Ray was stomping HD-DVD up to that point. Well, now we know. Paramount apparently received $150 million in "incentives" to make sure the deal happened.
Now, we're not sure, but that kind of screams "payoff" to us. As in buying off Paramount and DreamWorks' loyalty. Now, we're aware that it happens in business all the time, but it doesn't stink any less. We are, however, heartened by Steven Spielberg, who has stuck to his guns and said that he will be releasing his films on Blu-Ray, no matter what studio he made them for.
