A few high school students have banded together with some kids from MIT to design an off-the-rack Segway knockoff that actually works, and is much cheaper than the branded model. The cost of making this knockoff? A little under $1,000, which would make the new model cheaper to buy, as well.
The new Segway also goes comparably fast with the other model (11.5 MPH vs. 12 MPH) which will be great to outrun bullies who are just waiting to pummel kids who spend months and months gathering materials to build their own version of the geekmobile.
