Van Halen & Diamond Dave Are Back!!!

Posted by Frank Meyer - Monday, August 13, 2007 2:49 PM

Yeeeee-haaaaw!!!!!

Anyone that knows me knows I’ve been waiting my whole life for this to happen, so image my excitement when I got the invite to today’s Van Halen press conference to shoot and take photos as the mighty Van Halen announce their looooon-awaited reunion tour with original frontman “Diamond” David Lee Roth.

And when Dave, Eddie, brother Alex and son Wolfgang strutted onto the Four Seasons ballroom stage to announce they are indeed back together and hitting the road, I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real. But it was very much real, and the guys seemed quite enthused to be sharing the stage for the first time in years together.

The Diamond One hosted the event and had the press in the palm of his hand, assuring us we won't believe how Van Halen sounds these days with Wolfgang in the band, replacing bassist Michael Anthony.

“Wolf brings a young energy and spirit to this that’ll knock you out of your socks,” Dave beamed proudly.

“He’s kicking all of our asses,” Eddie agreed.

“It’s all intact,” Dave assured us. “The same sh*tty attitude with an all new look. Stereo sound in high-fi style.”

Yup, they confirmed the band will do more than just a one-off tour, and talked of playing around the world and recording new albums. They described the group as a new band with old, familiar hits. Best of all, Dave and Eddie hugged and joked around like old pals, with Eddie calling Dave his “new brother” and Dave telling stories of loading gear into Eddie and Alex’s father’s car so they could back him at jazz gigs as teens.

But it ain't all about old times and war stories...

"Meet us in the future, not the pasture," Dave cackled.

Twenty-five dates in all were announced today for the tour which is slated for a September 27th kick-off in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tickets for select dates on the tour go on sale beginning on Saturday, August 18th and are available on www.LiveNation.com.

Fans can enjoy the ultimate Van Halen experience including concert pre-show parties, backstage access, premium seating and more.  For additional details go to www.iloveallaccess.com.

Its about damn time, music needs the classic bands since todays music (hip hop and rap) sucks big time. I'll definitely go see them especially with Dave being Dave it might not last too long.

I agree, it probably won't last very long. Eddie and Dave's clashing ego's will see to that. I'll definitely go see them, but I prefer the VanHagar era. Then again, Sammy Hagar is doing just fine without Van Halen.

well just think of the sequels and re hashed movies and other things from the 70's it was bound to happen to music look at the stones the #1 grossing band for last tour. DAVE needs the money! and any way the fans deserve this tour they all owe us a reunion of all members for last show PLEASE!!!

Three words Van Friggin' Halen

No doubt they'll charge $400 for the worst seats in the venue, just like the stones.

Finally...I get to see Van Halen the way it was meant to be seen. (Not that Hagar sucked, but come on.) I almost cried in joy when I saw this headline. And if they release a new album you can bet your ass I'll be the first in line.

Amen FreshCut_T70.

I am so tired of the same freaking sound.
The only rap I kinda liked was the old school type.

Wow, if I were in my forties, I might actually care. Probably not though.

After Dave's excursion in the world of bluegrass, I was left a bit worried. But at the same time, I was reassured, because in his bluegrass remake of Jump, his voice still sounded great. This should be an event to remember, but hopefully it's for the right reasons.

This band can never get along i give the tour about two months before it all comes crashing down

Posted by prestondomo - Tuesday, August 14, 2007 2:40 PM

I would NEVER ask my son to fill the shoes of the awsome and talented Michael Anthony. And NO ONE could EVER fill the shoes of Sammy Hagar. Anyway, good luck boys.

yeah, this tours gonna last about 6 shows before
1. Dave pisses Eddie off
2. Alex (from what I heard) doesn't want Wolfgang playing bass (you cant break up a tight ryhthm section not to mention Mike did all the harmonies)
3. someone falls of the wagon (much love to Eddie but....
4. aside from Dave I dont think anyone else needs the money so why bother......

Posted by louix - Wednesday, August 15, 2007 7:05 PM

wow, I bet people from the (818) will be driving there Iroc's to this gig.

Posted by mikeychest - Tuesday, August 21, 2007 11:08 PM

Anyone who thinks this is a Van Halen reunion and it will last is sadly mistaken. Sorry, but Van Halen is Eddie,Dave,Alex and MICHAEL ANTHONY. Sorry but Wolfie, regardless of how great he might be, takes away the magic and nostalgia of this band.

Posted by Foxxman - Saturday, August 25, 2007 6:46 PM

Finally, they are back!! And even though without Michael Anthony it's not the original band, and although Sammy Hagar is a great rock artist and legend of his own making, the two should have never mixed and Van Halen just isn't Van Halen without David Lee Roth as the front man. Saw them four times between 1978 and 1984, and haven't cared to see them since the breakup because they just weren't the same, but now have my stage front tickets for the opening show in Charlotte and ready to again see one of the most awesome bands that ever set foot on stage!
