All Xbox 360s To Have HDMI Ports?

The Xbox 360 Elite package has it. The upcoming very, very special Halo Edtion Xbox 360 package will have it. Hell, why not  put it on everything else!

Aside from the 360 upgrade chip gossip roaming around, the tech gurus over at Ars Technica said that 'a new version of the Core and Premium (Xbox 360) in late August and September...will include an HDMI port,' according to their 'inside source'.  Microsoft has been very hush with rumors: Price-cuts, chip upgrades, and now this. But from the looks of how things have been going in the 360 rumor circle, it looks like this one's bound to happen.

An upgraded chip plus an HDMI port sounds like a great console to us-except for that forsaken 'ring of death'. It would simply equal an epic holiday console showdown: Should you go buy a Blu-Ray enabled PS3? Or battle it online with Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii? Maybe just dive in to the (eventually) improved 360? So many choices...so little bank accounts.

Microsoft ought to just go ahead and buy PS3 and slap a 360 case on them and sell them. I mean that's what they're moving towards at a snail pace anyhow.

This is not a rumor, this is a FACT!!! At my place of work, a new sku for the 360 premium has appeared with the term "w/HDMI" in its description. They are already on order, and though its release date says 9-1-07, that is just tentative, which means it could be out anytime from tomorrow to the end of September.

This IS good for future 360 owners, but current owners did get the shaft. Of course, it's not as if component is so bad. Hell, it is true HD, and it's not as if everyone owns 1080P HDTVs with 3 HDMI inputs anyway.

And my script word is light. HooRAY light!

PS3 is still a better deal overall. Yeah people have always complained about a bigger price-tag. For what you get it's still better even with 360's wimpy price cut.

PS3- Blu-ray with HDMI, Wi-Fi, 60 gigs all for $499
Comparable X-Box 360 Premium with HDMI (first it has to come out) with 20 gigs for $349. But wait there's more, HD DVD add-on for $179 and the Wireless Option for $99.

X-Box pros- more games, and online (that you still have to pay for)
PS3 pros- better upfront value, longer lasting tech (we'll see a 360-2 before we see a PS4)

I thought the new chips were supposed to fix the ring of doom. Or was that a new proccessor or something?

And ya, I'm sure MS would love to slap a Xbox 360 case on a PS3, bump up the price, and make it harder for developers to make games.

Here's a better idea: fix the damn thing and send the new ones to retail. Plus, if someone's breaks, send them a new fixed one.

And I'm gonna say that before they start adding HDMI to everything, they should have built in wi-fi, or it should come with the adapter, or at least make it a lot cheaper.

Appearing to be cheap at the beginning is one step to somewhat fooling consumers. Even though the Xbox 360 lacks wi-fi and such, the fact that the actual box costs less than the PS3 is what sells it. I think that's probably the only reason someone would buy the core system because unless they are only planning on playing Halo 3 (not a bad idea), they will probably need that hard drive.

Also, more people from my experience run ethernet, not wi-fi. And from my experience, most people are just dandy with normal DVDs. However, a lot more people are getting HDTVs, and that's what the Xbox 360 is, a box that plays well on HDTVs (and SDTVs I suppose) for a cheaper price than the PS3.

What exactly is wrong with your brain if you wouldn't take sumething worth $350 for free? Though I'd never buy a PS3, sure I'd take one for free cause I could play the good games that will eventually come out for it (or so I am told) and it would be less annoying than using my Vaio as a Blu-Ray player (by having to hook it up to the tv).

and really, who wants to run a ethernet line from the computer desk in the other room, through the house into the living room where the main tv is.
wifi is just cleaner looking.

and my question is how the F is that little peice of plastic wifi adapter for the 360 $99????? i think a more suitable price for that thing would be maybe $40 or $50, i mean thats how much wifi adapters are for computers, why not the 360?

Ya, that's why I use wireless, running the cable through the hallway is dumb. It is a good adapter and sticks right on the console, but ya $100 is rediculous.

And actually, before they dropped the conole prices (which were fine) they should have dropped the wi-fi adapter and hard drive prices (the HD-DVD player should have been more than $20 price drop).

You guys are all better off if you just be quiet and watch to see where this console war takes us. Its a waste of time to sit there and send messages bad mouthing this system or bad mouthing that system. All 3 are good systems. All 3 have their pros and cons. Just wait it out another year and we'll see where they stand, until then just shut up and play the console you have.

mgs4 will just be a good looking 1 player game that has no online play and will port over to the xbox 360 within 6 months of it's release. when that happens, it will have online co-op and leaderboards with achievements and a higher frame-rate.

That tends to piss me off. I waited awile after launch to buy mine but still i find out that they are making a better version. Why don't they just make the good one to start with. I know that technology changes quickly but they knew they were going to upgrade them at launch. When u pay that much money for something u don't want it to be obsolete in a year!

That's just how it works, because they know that if they start with one type of thing, people will buy it. Then, if they upgrade it, more people will buy it (even some who bought the previous model). They'll just keep doing that cause they know people will buy it.

Apple is practicaly based on that method. New iPod every 3 months and people who had the previous version just buy the new one.

Well that's all based on your opinion. Halo 1 and Halo 2 have been critically acclaimed and if you compare reviews, Halo wins (ie on X-Play, MGS3 got 4 and Halo 2 got 5). Kojima is legendary but that doesn't mean every game is great. Miyamoto is also legendary, even more so than Kojima, yet not every game he makes is good.

If you want to talk about something that is over-hyped, look at Killzone 2 (I'm not saying it's going to suck). Killzone 1 was mediocre yet a lot of "Sony fanboys" are claiming that Killzone 2 will blow Halo 3 away. What the hell is that based on?

In response to "MGS4 WILL NEVER GO TO THE 360 END OF STORY": First off, the fact that Konami is open to having MGS on other platforms prooves you wrong in your assumption. No, it doesn't mean that it WILL come to the Xbox 360, but you can't dismiss the possibility. Also I suppose you know how much disc space MGS4 takes up cause you are so sure that it wouldn't work on a DVD.

In response to Ratchet and Clank being more advanced than anything on the 360: You are basing this on a VIDEO that you watched? As far as I'm concerned, until you start showing me some proof, you're just yelling out of your ass.

K, thanks for some proof. However, the fact Konami is open to other consoles means that MGS4 can still be made without Blu-Ray (ya I know people will say it'll just be watered down or w/e). And ya, the Ratchet and Clank series is proven to be good, but I never said it was bad, I simply said that the statement, "it is more advanced than anything on the 360" (based on a video) is rediculous.

Once again,the latest story from the pimp Microsoft doesn't impress me at all and this is why.The pimp Microsoft's latest story doesn't impress me at all because these so-called new versions of the 360 (the Gaylo i mean Halo 3 version included) are definitely going to continue to scratch discs,still have an extremely noisy fan and dvd drive,still going to overheat too much and explode discs,still going to malfunction and die too much (business as usual).These so-called new versions of the 360 still have those same 90nm chips in them by the way (one of the reasons why they overheat too much in the 1st place) along with the explicit fact that the 360 is the worst piece of s*** i mean hardware ever made for video game consoles to date.I say boycott the 360 if you are serious about not gettting your feelings hurt.

This article makes a good point. Xbox360 still has to be upgraded to suit gamers wallets. You get basic quality from a Xbox360 purchase and thats only if it doesn't flare three red lights to submit it's exsistance. The better buy would be a PS3 only the fact that it's hradware worth dishing bucks for because of it's originiality of drooling games and well built life span. Plus it looks pretty.

The Xbox 360 has been out for a year longer and they are now hitting their stride. if they have so many games name 5 that are out now that are good games that i can go but in the store and will not be on both systems. the first one I know will be Gears so come up with something else.
Also Quit bicthing about the amount of games on the PS3 their has been no system in history that in its first year had a super amout of games the only reason 360 has not had those problems is because the rushed to market with a faulty product!!!

just there will be PLATIUM model with HDMI+HD-DVD +DVD Drive and a 160GB. they keep releasing it, becuase there are lemmings that will keep upgrading and following them. the problem is microsoft doesn't have a vision. they use the term "to meet demand". hey LOOK AT HEAD. HDMI was out in 2003 overseas.

I finally understand why Xbox owners never get mad why all these different system come out after the initial one. because the previous one broke and youre tryna hold on for halo.

I'm getting really tired of all these different versions of the consoles coming out. Just release one then focus on games. Games are what matter her, not the NEW 80GB PS3! or NEW 120GB XBOX 360! I DON'T CARE! Give me games, I already got my console. They keep saying "People want variety" well now you just made my 20GB Xbox 360 look like a poor mans PS3. If there is something new give me cable or a download, not a whole new version. "Look at this brand new Xbox 360 isn't it way better than the one you just bout for 400 dollars" Yes it is, thanks a lot...

Fact of the matter is that MS will keep redefining their hardware because we are in the early stages of Next gen.Honestly we should not see another system for years. Xbox didnt plan that long. developers have already tapped into much of the 360 power and the dvd format is done. people HD is among us and the PS3 is the only system ready fully out of the box. as detail grows so will the amount of data required to store it ie; Bluray disc not dvd. HDMI is the delivery not the source. PGR4 developers say they cut night scenes from the game form lack of storage un true about PS3 titles, going forward it will be alandslide for sony.

m$ isn't copying sony, you mis-understand, its m$ is not looking forward, they created a machine so a so-called next gen, but keep having to upgrading it to what they call "meet demand". but really what has happened is they didn't look at the standards, and in 2003/2004 HDMI was a standard coming into North America and the world (it was already in overseas). but why didn't they put it on the console, no vision, or does m$ expect the lemmings to keep upgrading to their next upgraded console, and so on and so forth.

It would be funny if the new consoles had HDMI 1.3 now instead of HDMI 1.2 (ELITE).

people thought the PS3 was the dreamcast of the next-gen. I think we found our DREAMCAST of the next-gen: xbox360.

I went back to the article on the Feed where it said the President of Konami, not Kojima, said they were open to taking the franchise to other platforms. I know it says franchise, but I didn't say it was true that MGS4 will have an Xbox 360 version (most likely it won't). I may have missed something, but I never saw anything that said MGS4 will NEVER come to the Xbox 360.

I may just be missing where I said it, but I don't recall bitching about the amount of games on the PS3. And by a list of good Xbox 360 games, can they be PC too and also can they be like Oblivion where they were originally Xbox 360 (and PC) and now are coming to PS3? 360 only (so far) is a little difficult because a lot of what goes 360 goes Windows at the same time.

My theory on console sales:

Nintendo decided to use last-gen hardware while concentrating on the casual consumer through the use of innovation. This "fun for everyone" attitude and cheap price has helped the Wii's sales.

Microsoft made the Xbox 360 with hardware that is current based on the average consumer, but not brand new. They got their console out a year early so it had little competition. It also allowed developers to get used to the Xbox 360 before competition shipped. Even when the PS3 arrived, the Xbox 360 was less expensive which allowed it to continue to sell well. While the rush helped MS, it also hurt. Red Circle of Doom, anyone?

Sony outfitted the PS3 with all new top of the line tech. This made it more expensive than its competitors. The price was the main factor for the console's poor sales. Because the PS3 was ahead of its time, it made it more difficult for developers. This resulted in less games and game delays. The PS3 has more features than any other console, but some are more than the average consumer cares about.

This is hardly a Rumor, or anyone's "inside information" Microsoft announced hdmi, and new chipset, along with cooler running, in the exact speech, for the unvieling of the elite, youtube it hahah, they say that elite will come with hdmi and chipset, and that all core and premium models would be equiped with hdmi and chip shortly after. This is not a rumor, it is documented fact, from the words of microsoft. i asked microsoft tech support if they will replace my system, for one with an hdmi, they will not of course, pay for anyone dumb enough to buy an xbox in the first 2 years of it's life, a little' "Thanks for your support" from xbox, now everyone else who blows $500, will get a better console, "dont you wish you had waited?" i am just glad good ps3 games are coming out, so microsoft will quit raping me. and xbox 360 games sucked during those 2 years. my choice was oblivion, or fight night round 3 for almost 2 years.

The whole ten year life span is bs. They said the ps2 would have long life even though after about 5 years they were already about to release a new system. In six years there will be another playstation. The ps3 may still be on the market after that but they will make a new console. i know that ps2 is still on the market but ps2 owners would trash that thing as soon as they had the chance to buy the new system and sony knows that. Just a thought for people that think that the ps3 has the longest lasting tech. It will soon enough be obsolete as well

xbox 360 is the best! gamer tv says so, g4tv says so all the pros say so the only 3 problems with xbox 360 is the hardware, how you have to pay for lots of things, and 360 has no motion sencer

Well I own an Xbox 360 and a Wii. The PS3 was the first Sony console I decided not to buy. The Xbox was the last of the 6th gen consoles I bought but after Halo:CE and Halo 2, my favorite console was the Xbox. I got the Xbox 360 for Halo 3, essentially, but I had a feeling some great games would come out before it (plus Call of Duty 2 was fun). I bought a Wii cause of my classic favorite, Super Smash. So ya, I support the Xbox 360 mainly, however I have to give props where they are due. In terms of the PS3, it has better hardware than the Xbox 360... which makes me sad.

Can you do me a favour? When posting these rumors can you include potential release dates for Canada? I know, to quote Homer Simpson, "America's little brother" counts on you for 99.9% of our infotainment. And we are nothing but loyal to your syndicated cable goodness. So please... throw us a bone...
