'Rock Band' Drum Kit Details

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, July 18, 2007 8:08 AM

Check out the sweet pic of Rock Band's drum kit.

The drum controller is played by striking one of 4 foam pads, representing the snare drum, tom-tom, hi-hat, and crash/ride cymbals. The set will also feature a kick pedal for bass drum and will ship with a pair of drumsticks.

Game developer Harmonix says that if players can master the drum peripheral on hard difficulty, they will be able to play the instrument in reality, meaning that, get this, we'll finally be able to get some real world use out of constantly playing videogames!

Along with the awesome drum set show, Rock Band can be played with a microphone (that doubles as a tamborine), and a guitar peripheral.

No price has been announced for the peripherals, but we bet it will be cheaper than equipping a real band. It will be available this fall for the PS3 and 360.

can't figure out why somebody would spend their money on this when there are so many other good games coming out.

But it looks cool.

oh, sweet zombie Jesus. Can't wait for this.

Well, I can imagine that it would be great fun if you have a lot of friends who like to play together.

I could see this being great on college campuses or even in the barracks where some drinking might be involved.

But I can't see purchasing it if you're going to sit at home by yourself and play it. But friends can make it easier to justify; especially if they help pay for it.

Can you link two or three of the kits together to create a crazy Alex Van Halen kit?

The mic doubles as a tambourine, but can it double as a cowbell?

I am so getting this. I play guitar, but this will be fun too if they make it like real drums.

Gotta love videogames. It's all about fun!

I have real drums. I play real drums....which means I will probably suck at this game on drums!! Just like some real guitar players said they have a hard time with Guitar Hero!

I do want to try this game though.

I want this sooo badly, I mainly want this game just for the drumset.

They say no price for the peripherals, if that's the case then someone needs to inform Gamestop that the prices they have listed are wrong then.

i'm buying this, i don't care what people think of me! Wait... people don't think of me... crap. Hello, anyone out there?

I bet this game will cost like $250.00 with all of the crap that goes with it. I just don't want to have an assload of guitar controllers strewn all over my house 3 years from now, when rock manager hero 5 comes out!

Posted by HALOscorpian - Thursday, July 19, 2007 2:29 AM
i heard it was $200

I am a real drummer, let me tell you, I get total s*** from kids who play guitar hero about how "Nirvana sucks and Heart Shaped Box is terrible". Although calling kids out as posers is always fun, especially when they come up to me about how awesome AIC is or something. (They say it cause of the shirts I wear to school).
I play a real guitar (kinda) too. So I constantly call them out with acoustic guitars.
Anyway, I just thought "snap, kids are gonna be like 'I can play drums too, jerk'" Then I realized a few things. Yes the kit is gonna be way too hard for them to relate to, and that they're never gonna buy a real kit after the 75 for the fake kit... Not to mention I can pull out a pretty mean triplets solo if worst comes to worst. :)

its a game that looks fun and would be great in a party situation. i still would rather play UFS, but this game will take some of my free time.

I've been playing drums for almost 20 years and I have a real kit setup with mic's going into a professional recording setup. I couldn't be more stoked about this game. I reserved the full version today. Now I can cure that 1am urge to rock a beat without spending $6k on a Roland kit. I've also been playing long enough to not be a snob about a freaking game. Who cares if it's not a real kit? The co-ordination translates exactly. I think it's awesome that people who wouldn't otherwise get to play now have their own form of karaoke. I'm also excited about getting to jam with friends who aren't musicians.
