We reported it as a rumor last week. Then as a rumor that is probably true. Now it is official: The PlayStation 3's price has been slashed by $100. And, as an added bonus, an 80-Gig version of the system is hitting America.
The console will cost $499 in the US and $549 in Canada, So far, the price drop is for North America only, Although, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe told gaming site GameSpot, "We are making an announcement at E3 on Thursday which will be related to SCEA's announcement."
As far as the beefier PS3, it will go on sale in August for $599, and will have all the functionality of the 60GB model. Sony is also offering a "limited edition" bundle which packages the console with the off-road racer MotorStorm, which currently retails for $59.99.
The cheaper PS3 should be on shelves today.
