Douglas Adams, beloved author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, was totally right.
The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything is indeed 42.
It turns out that our galaxy weighs three times 10 to the power of 42kg - a number written as 3 followed by 42 zeroes.
This seems trivial, but it turns out (according to people MUCH smarter than TheFeed) that knowing the weight of the of the galaxy and the amount of matter in contains, is key to solving many important astronomical questions.
We'll leave that stuff up to people in labcoats with awesome calculators, but just hearing that 42 zeroes part warms the cockles of TheFeed's cold, black heart.
