The Dutch television show called The Big Donor Show, in which three patients in need of a kidney competed for the affection of a donor, has turned out to be a hoax. Just before revealing which patient the donor was going to give her kidney to, the host of the show stepped in and revealed the hoax.
It turns out that the whole show was just a way to increase awareness of people who need kidney transplants. So, essentially, the Dutch were watching a very elaborate public service announcement/practical joke. How great is that? Just another reason why The Netherlands is so much cooler than we are. Can you imagine the outcry if this were to happen in America? Americans do not like being fooled. We only have a very little bit of compassion in our lives, and we do not want to waste it on fake kidney shows, thank you very much.
