The American Idol finale is in the books, and the winner is Jordin Sparks, the 17-year-old with the big voice, who beat out beatboxing dude Blake Lewis for the crown. Though the finale was watched by 29.5 million people, it was a pretty steep drop off from the past few years' finale episodes, which shows that AI might be losing a little bit of its draw on the American audience.
As for the show itself, it was a little on the weird side, what with the Smokey Robinson performance and the past Idols doing their Beatles tribute, complete with Joe Perry from Aerosmith playing guitar. Then, we were subjected to Bette Midler, which was...um...not good. In extremis.
At any rate, it was a little on the anticlimactic side, but at least it's over until January. So that's nice.
