
Reportedly, the price of Blu-Ray lasers is going down, meaning the manufacturing cost of the PlayStation 3 is going down by as much as $100.
Sony's Shiroishi Semiconductoris is ramping up production of blue-violet laser diodes, the most scarce component in the blue-laser pick-up heads in PS3 and other Blu-ray players.
Does this mean a price-cut is in the works for Sony's console? No one is saying yet, although Sony 's senior vice president Takao Yuhara told reporters, "we may look at the price as part of our strategy to expand the market when the timing is right," earlier this year.
With consumers reporting that the price-tag is main impediment to PS3 purchase, many are predicting a price cut is coming...keep your fingers crossed and we'll keep ya posted.
