Conservative lawyer Jack Thompson has been unfairly ripping on videogames for a while now, blaming them for the downfall of society and violent behavior among impressionable youth. He’s even gone so far as to claim that there is a direct correlation between gaming and the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech.
Now, the brilliant minds at MSNBC have gone and ripped Thompson a new one and they did so using cold, hard logic and not swears and potty language like we would have done:
“And for all of Thompson's claims that violent video games are the cause of school shootings, [sociologist Dr. Karen] Sternheimer points out that before this week's Virginia Tech massacre, the most deadly school shooting in history took place at the University of Texas in Austin… in 1966. Not even "Pong" had been invented at that time.”
Sternheimer goes on to say, “One thing that people often don't realize is that in the years since video game sales have really exploded, not only have youth violence rates decreased but violence rates in the U.S. have declined precipitously.””
Ooh, you and your nonsensical argument just got PWNED Jack Thompson!
