The man who created Super Mario Bros., Starfox and Donkey Kong, among a host of other classic gaming franchises, Shigeru Miyamoto has been nominated as one of the 200 hopefuls for Time Magazine’s "100 Most Influential People of the Year."
As Time puts it, the "Game Designer for Nintendo game systems" is the “Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console,” but “His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii's gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.”
No matter where he ultimately ranks on the list, an honor like this is long past due for such a prominent and prolific game designer, to whom the entire gaming community owes homage. Hopefully he’ll claim a place in the top ten, if not the number one spot.
