Snoop On Imus

Posted by Frank Meyer - Friday, April 13, 2007 10:30 AM

This is a terrific quote from the great Snoop Dogg on Don Imus and his situation:

"It's a completely different scenario. [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about ho's that's in the 'hood that ain't doing sh--, that's trying to get a n---a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha----as say we in the same league as him."

Hell yeah.

I say, Snoop for President in ’08!

I'd vote for snoop in a mili-second

hahahha, don imus must go. He looks goofy when he gets mad

Posted by stinray2118 - Friday, April 13, 2007 11:23 AM
Snoop is a scumbag. So if your not educated your a ho. If they go after IMUS who i care nothing about they have to go after all these rapper scumbags who make money off of saying this garbage. Nothing positive is coming out from these rappers thats why the black community is having problems all negative all the time. One can say it and one can't thats not freedom off speech. a slippery slope they started.

Posted by altizar - Friday, April 13, 2007 11:27 AM
In all honesty Imus got what he deserved. Not because of what he said, but because of all the apologizing and sucking he did afterwards.

Posted by Ugotmefuctup - Friday, April 13, 2007 11:51 AM
I feel ya, altizar; everybody is always sorry AFTER they do what they've done and then get caught and/or after they get ridiculed for their action.

I'm SOOOO glad that this has happened. I hate that we all try to walk around as if racism and sexism aren't alive and well today. Imus just demonstrated the level ignorance that can exist within one race regarding another. I think he honestly thought that he was being "cute" and using acceptable "street" verbiage while showing his obvious bigot nature.

I'd rather be at open war, than be in a state of fake/false peace (whether it be with just one individual, or, an entire society of people).

The problems of the black community comes from rap music?! So the black community was doing great up until 1978 when rap hit the scene? Sweet, now I can tell my dad to stop his complaining about growing up in Mississppi and Tennessee in the 1960s, because nothing was wrong in the black community until 1978. Thanks stinray2118.

Just seems like a double standard. Most of the people speaking out publicly on this (besides the Rutgers B-ball team) have said there own racist comments in the past. What Imus said was wrong plain and simple, but the same standard should apply to everyone regardless of skin color. If its one for one person to say a comment it should be wrong for everyone.

Of course (with regard to race relations) there's always this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18 090277/

When the lights are off, there is no more color- just nookie!

Thank you very much namliler, Very nice!

Some people on here (stinray2118) are just not educated enough. Read and educate yourselves. Think before you speak. That is the bottom line here!

"I only call ya' bitches cuz I don't know ya' names individually" - Katt Williams

Yeah that's totally different. /sarcasm

Racism and sexism DO belong in entertainment because its damn entertaining. Jay Leno makes racist and sexist remarks in almost every monolouge as do lots of other comedians. Its entertaining.

Oh, I am tired of all of this "double-standard" talk. That, "They-can-degrade-one-another- but-another-race-can't" -type of crap. First of all, the very notion that someone outside of a particular race is interested in using inflammatory and derogatory terminology towards another race is a trump card to the "double-standard" argument to begin with.

No one understands and can communicate to the people of a particular ethnicity better than the person(s) of that race. Just because Tyrone is seemingly allowed to refer to Shaneeka as a "crazy black beeyotch" doesn't automatically make it acceptible for Ryan to do so. Keep in mind that black people are STILL recovering from slavery and the civil rights movement (which still continues today). No matter how black people deal with the way that they communicate to each other, white people have to be mindful of what they say and how they say it (regarding people of color), or else risk the ire of the community at large.

Posted by namliler - Friday, April 13, 2007 12:51 PM
Why is the black guy named Tyrone, and the black girl name Shaneeka. You sir a bigot.

I kid.

Do you have a radio show or television program I should plan on boycotting?

Posted by Ugotmefuctup - Friday, April 13, 2007 1:06 PM
@ namliler

You sir are one of my favorite posters, lol.

Actually, I had the hardest time trying to come up with the "white guy's" name. I mean, in reality, black men's names and white men's names have long since started to blur along the racial line. I personally prefer more contemporary type names. I hate when someone's name sounds like a mixture of "Shanghai" culture and the name of an Electronic's company, lol.

"So if your not educated your a ho."
(stinray)

It's actually you're in that context, not your, and if you believe it, I guess you're a ho.

Clearly my boy Snoop was saying that Rutgers basketball players are educated and have made it to another level. This does NOT necessarily mean that every OTHER girl is a ho.

There are educated, respectable women, and there are hos, and there are all types of women in between, above and below. It's not just black and white. :)

Or is it?

They both are idiots, free to say whatever they like.

Posted by deannathegeek - Friday, April 13, 2007 2:29 PM
Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. However, people in the public eye, especially the media, need to expend some extra brain cells before opening their mouths. Otherwise, this happens.

I mean, seriously, is a white man calling black female athletes names more important than American troops dying in Iraq?

Posted by SuPaC - Friday, April 13, 2007 2:36 PM
i usually do not post on here. i just think that whole situation is wrong. Imus was wrong and everyone knows it. I love Snoop.. his cd is in my car player at this very minute, but for him to go off like that... just aint right. maybe i am weird, but i think all people should be treated with respect, reguardless of ethnicity, education level, and whatever else makes all of us different. we all can enjoy freedom of speech, but lets all keep in mind the repercussions of our speech and actions. i just wish all of this crap would get off the news channels already. first anna nicole, now this. thank you g4 for the news that we care about. k-per for president? who is with me?

Posted by TheKei - Friday, April 13, 2007 3:38 PM
Vote for Snoop! Then maybe marijuana will finally be legalized! (Legalize it, Don't criticize it)

Posted by Hoppy - Friday, April 13, 2007 4:45 PM
Jesus, Imus didn't diserve any of this. All it is, was a slip of the tonque and that's all. And Snoop dog doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. What does he mean by this.. "[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports" that is totally irrelevant to what the issue is.

Black rappers put their own kind down, and get away with it without a scratch. So if it is a white guy that says something about a black person, he gets penalized to the fullest.

"Snoop_Dizzle" he can't go to jail for saying "Nappy headed hoes."

Posted by russ2004 - Friday, April 13, 2007 4:49 PM
Snoop for 08' !! 1st order of business, legalize mary jane. damn. its about time they do.

Posted by bkbri1283 - Friday, April 13, 2007 5:10 PM
I can understand what he is saying and how he feels but either way Snoop his words your words they all degrade women in a way we should not be degraded. It is a fact that white people buy rap CD and listen to it so they are just in some cases repeating what they hear and I really thought Imus comments were not permited and he shouldn't be saying those things but if we are saying these things and we are cool with it, others will pick-up on it and do the same so if we get rid of it all together we won't have any problems and no-one will blame anything on anybody.

Posted by Vlad_Tepes_Strife - Friday, April 13, 2007 5:53 PM
Ah how cute.

Seriously how can you call this a good quote. If wants to express his feelings, maybe he should talk complete English and not like 1st grader.

hey are they going to fire carlos mencia. I hope comedy central does because he is a fat racist beaner. No offense to any Hispanics on this site. He also steals jokes

yougotme... you said"Keep in mind that black people are STILL recovering from slavery"
so... you mean to tell me you know someone who was a slave in this lifetime? really? from the US.... really? no black person in the states can honestly say they are recovering from slavery. If you want to play that card, then everyone from EVERY race should play that card because every race has been a slave at one point of history so be a little smarter. Imus only got in trouble for saying what he did (it was a JOKE remember) because he is white.

Posted by play3rtwo - Friday, April 13, 2007 10:33 PM
Dave Chappelle and Ned Mencia would just get "hey, that's origional, that's funny...blah blah" instead just because a WHITE guy says something about a BLACK person, it makes it wrong, but listen to the radio, watch tv! watch the chappelle show! Watch Mind of Mencia and if you don't get offended by what they say then stfu. No one on this board ever really listened to IMUS before, so how do you know he only talked about black people? most likely he talked about all races and got singled out on this one.
Bunch of hippocrites if you ask me.

Posted by WAYRAD - Friday, April 13, 2007 10:40 PM
Imus should not be fired or be made to apologize. It is his job to push the envelope and play with peoples danger zones. Carlin, Pryor, and other stand-up comics have been doing it for years. Stern and O&A do worse stuff every day. It was a throw away line in a free flowing conversation. It wasn’t funny, but it wasn’t hateful of malicious either. It is supposed to be humorous "locker room" style radio show. Fuck NBC TV and CBS radio for suspending him. The stupid networks wonder why everyone watches cable news and are getting satellite radio. If we are all issued different vocabularies due to color, or whatever defining attribute, we are screwed as a nation. A nation without a sense of humor is destined to die. I blame the over application of Political Correctness. Political Correctness is like the god damn Thought Police in 1984 internalized plus the hypersensitive media acting as its physical manifestation. Say what and offend whom ever you'd like. Just try to keep it funny.

Snoop is right about being a difference in rappers saying what they say as observations about the hoods they grew up in, and Imus saying what he said. I do disagree with people on news talk shows saying that black kids drop out of shcool and sell drugs and live the life rappers rap about, because rap has influenced them. This is not rappers faults, parents who don't raise their kids, will have their kids raised for them by a society that seems to have no moral judgement. It is only the strong survive in this world, and learing that should come from parents, not rappers or any other media figures.

Posted by TadL - Saturday, April 14, 2007 7:16 PM
Of course, because Imus was being serious, right? Snoop Dogg, despite the fact their hoes are doing "shi-" for "nig-as" in the hood, is being serious but he's definitely not in the same league as that white boy from MSNBC obviously making fake racist remarks about a bunch of basketball players to shock his fans the way he's alway
