Judge: No More Customers For Vonage

Posted April 6, 2007 - By Stephen Johnson

Bad news for Vonage.  A federal judge on Friday ordered Vonage not to accept any new customers while it continues to infringe on Verizon Communications patents on Internet phone calls.

U.S. District Judge Claude Hilton said it was the only fair option that would minimize harm to both companies for now.

"You have every right to go to the court of appeals," Hilton told Vonage's attorneys. "They might have something different to say."

Verizon accused its rival of infringing on five of its patents

"You are slowly strangling Vonage because it cannot replace that customer base," said Roger Warin, a lawyer for Vonage, during the hearing in federal court in Alexandria this morning.
