'Gears of War' Gets New Multiplayer Mode Soon

Posted April 5, 2007 - By Eugene Morton

Gears of War keeps getting better! Every time you look around, Epic is releasing a new patch, a new map, a visual upgrade, you name it. Not ones to rest on their laurels, the developers at Epic are at it again, this time preparing to unleash an entirely new mode of online play, one with a capture the flag like mechanic (complete with respawning) that’s been dubbed Annex mode by some.

In this new mode, teams of players are given objectives at the start of each round, such as “hold the location.” Winners are decided by a point system and players gain points based on how long they hold a location or how many objectives they complete. The first team to gain a set amount of points wins.

Annex mode is highly customizable and almost everything from bleed out time and weapon availability to the number of rounds and number of points necessary to win can be adjusted.

There is no date set for the release of the new mode, despite early speculation which suggested that it would be released on April 9th. For now we play the waiting game, which is nowhere near as fun as Gears multiplayer.
