'Mortal Kombat' Coming Back To Movies?

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Friday, March 30, 2007 11:12 AM

Oh, joy. There's going to be a new Mortal Kombat film, just as soon as the legality gets worked out between the studios in charge, there will reportedly be a new film based on the now-ancient videogame. However, don't look for it to be a sequel. What they have in mind is something else entirely. The plan is to 'restart' the franchise a la Batman Begins. Just to, you know, press reset on the whole thing and start again.

We're not sure why the powers-that-be think that a new Mortal Kombat is going to be any better than the old ones, and the heat is certainly not what it was on the franchise, but stranger things have happened. It's possible that something good could come of this whole thing, however unlikely.

I must be the only one that liked the first two movies. Granted they weren't masterpieces, but they were still fun to watch.
To me, they're the type of movies where if you're flipping channels and come across it, you have to stop and watch it.

Huh maybe G4 should take a page out of their book and try resetting themselves, maybe then we wouldnt have to watch reruns of Cops, Cheaters, and TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR

Let's just hope this time around the fight scenes are a little more in depth and with todays technology they should be pretty sweet.

The concept of Mortal Kombat works for a game NOT FOR A MOVIE.

It's gonna be craptacular.

Posted by djHaQ - Friday, March 30, 2007 12:40 PM

Sounds like a good idea for the next movie.

Posted by altizar - Friday, March 30, 2007 12:42 PM

I loved the first Mortal combat movie. the sound track was great, the fight scenes where well choregraphed, and the special effects where well done for the time.

The 2nd one was a huge pile of elephant crap.

@ sdc10...
Maybe G4 should reinvent themselves as a...oh, i don't know....maybe a technology and video game station. That would be kind of cool.

Posted by hetman - Friday, March 30, 2007 1:02 PM

I hope they keep the techno theme song. That is about it though. And i would love to see subzero rip someones head off.

Posted by ciimunnstr - Friday, March 30, 2007 1:09 PM

I'm addicted and still playing deception NOW. I'm a BIASED OPINION on this. So continue on, REINVENT, IMPROVE.

Finally. My father and I LOVED watching the 1st two and have been waiting for a 3rd one for forever. I mean come on, who else didn't notice that huge cliff hanger at the end of the second one (not the 1st cliffhanger of the 1st one, I mean the 2nd one)

It's been about 6 years now (I'm 16 now) and I can't wait to tell him that there is a second movie coming out.

LMAO @ the sound track was great in MK1

I got kind of tired of hearing the theme song after the 37th time during the movie.

With every movie franchise now trying to restart and get in touch with their roots, I see these new Mortal Kombat films as gruesome. They tried the whole PG-13 s.hit and they sucked. And since when did Raiden turn into some skinny white guy??? I mean I did like Christopher Lambert in the first one even though he didnt fight, but the goofball in the second one.....are you kidding me? He cut his freakin hair and......ugh! And then the game itself f.ucked up when they got rid of Shao Kahn. What they should do is tell the story in the way the arcades do. I mean, how cool would it be to watch in anticipation of a fatality? We couldnt get that in a pg-13 film, well except for that bulls.hit that goro did. It was layered with velveeta cheese and the seconde one was layered fumunda cheese.......fum unda my nuts, that is.

I loved the first two movies. The only thing that could have been better was they should have made them rated R. MOrtal Kombat isn't what is is without some blood and fatalities. If they make up for that in this one, it could be the best video game movie in a long time.

Posted by codeazrael - Friday, March 30, 2007 2:16 PM

Plus, I wanna see Sonya in a red hot shower scene, getting pounded by Jax while he debriefs her. LOL

Posted by codeazrael - Friday, March 30, 2007 2:18 PM

Chow Yun Fat as Raiden maybe???????

Posted by hiclaude - Friday, March 30, 2007 2:25 PM

Bolo Yeung should play Raiden LOL

Posted by cocoapop - Friday, March 30, 2007 4:04 PM

The only way it will be good, is if Paul W.S Anderson directs the movie.

Posted by sdc10 - Friday, March 30, 2007 5:33 PM

i still say lambert as raiden, sure he doesnt really capture the fighting side, but hes does have the mentor/leader aspect

Posted by CreamPieBaby - Friday, March 30, 2007 10:27 PM

they screwed up mortal kombat when they didn't include fatalities and blood and gore. That's what mortal kombat is. It would be like if they made a pg13 gta movie.

Posted by lockepsb - Saturday, March 31, 2007 2:09 PM

the first Mortal Kombat was great.. but the 2nd one just ruined the whole thing when they changed most of the actors/actresses over and threw in the whole cheesey Animality crap.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, March 31, 2007 2:26 PM

i agree, also the raiden from the the 2nd was terrible compared to the first.

Posted by cmg61904 - Saturday, March 31, 2007 3:22 PM

The first Mortal Kombat was definitely better than the second one. I really liked Lambert as Raiden, but I didn't mind the Raiden in the second one as much as the stupidity of the script.

Posted by cmg61904 - Saturday, March 31, 2007 3:26 PM

The second one had its good moments too, though.

Posted by sdc10 - Sunday, April 1, 2007 9:58 AM

the problem with the second one was that they tried to cram as much characters in there as they could, most without a purpose, i mean look a sub-zero he didnt do anything except make a bridge

Posted by spitfirec4 - Sunday, April 1, 2007 12:46 PM

exactly, they should of have provided more back round info on the people in the 2nd movie. Also that whole transforming into a animal crap was very stupid and dissapointing

Posted by Hellwarden - Sunday, April 1, 2007 7:18 PM

...Yay?

Posted by guenchy - Wednesday, April 4, 2007 10:34 PM

I just want to see lu kang and johnny cage double team tanya

Now that would make for a great MK movie

Posted by Gamertag_Lyon360 - Sunday, April 22, 2007 1:36 PM

I just hope that if they try to shove a bunch of mortal Kombat characters in there, at least give them some background or give them something important to do. besides make a bridge out of ice that breaks two seconds later over a gap that the characters could have jumped over in the first place.

Posted by Gamertag_Lyon360 - Sunday, April 22, 2007 1:38 PM

THIS IS NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!!!!!

THIS IS JUST A JOKE!

Chuck Norris as Johnny Cage.

When I first heard this, I was ready to slap an old lady in the face for happiness. I love MK with a passion, and seeing a well-done movie of it would be amazing.

I just hope that the director isn't this "mink" that's running around IMDB. If the director of the new MK Movie can't even capitilize his half-assed name, we're all doomed.

I just wish with all of my soul that they pay close attention to making an engaging storyline with a solid script, some kick-ass fighting scenes, and a sexier-than-ever Sonya. Luv Sonya ^_^

If this movie is even half as badass as the new DOA movie then it will be well worth seeing. I think the only way that they can do justice to the mind bending landscapes of the various realms like Outworld and the Netherrealm is to shoot the movie like 300 using all digital backgrounds. I hope they don't go for realism like Batman Begins. That shit don't fly in Mortal Kombat.

Posted by NextBigOne - Wednesday, March 26, 2008 1:58 PM

the movie could work really well if it focussed more on an adventutous story rather than just fighting. the newer games revolve more around the worlds of mortal kombat than the actual fighting. it also should be based lesser or not at all on earthrealm and liu kang. it should more surround the world of scorpian's conflict with quan chi and baraka's tarkatan army and sub-zero and the lin keui. the more they make it more fantasy world-like similiar to wide open battles in lord of the rings and 300 and then focuss in on individual stories of scorpian and the others to form a story, the better it will be. basically it should be made similiar to the movies and pictures shown in the newer games such as deadly alliance through armageddon.
