Philips hopes that your moment of panic will line their pockets with alkaline gold!

Drum roll please....Curtains drawn upwards....Introducing the Xenium NRG cell phone.

A cell phone with the ability to insert a single AAA battery as a back-up power source, Philips latest creation was developed in collaboration with Energizer Holdings, Inc. and Techtium Ltd.

Allowing for an additional three hours of talk time and the ability to use either standard or rechargeable AAA batteries, the Xenium NRG will be rolling out later this year.

I never understood why cell phones beep and use more power up when they are about to die. They keep saying low battery and vibrate or beep. One warning is all we need. Anymore and you are wasting the little power we have left.

I'm suprised it took this long to come up with that. They probably didn't want to make it too big, though... Oh well, before long we can power our cell phones from sun light, water, or food scraps.
