Microsoft pranked Sony's PlayStation 3 European launch pretty hard the other night.
Microsoft's marketing people hired a boat bearing Xbox logos to float up and down the river where Sony was showing off their new game system. That's a picture of it up above.
Xbox also reportedly handed out folding chairs with a website URL on 'em. It leads to here. We can't vouch for the authenticity of this site, mind you. But the site is a light-hearted diss, welcoming Sony to "The Next Generation" and pointing out: "Sony, you're late."
Here's how a french newscaster reported the first sighting of the Xboat:
Program host: Can you stop the clip for a second?
Program host: There’s an event that’s happening right now…
Program host: There’s a Xbox 360 boat that’s passing us right now.
Program host: There was already a small war over this.
Program host: So Microsoft likes pulling tricks like this. Oh course Microsoft and Sony like pulling tricks on each other like this.
Program host: A couple months ago, a couple years ago when Sony was trying to launch the PSP, Microsoft said “Just wait for the Xbox 360, keep your money” and all that.
Program host: This is crazy
Program host: Oh yeah, they’re coming out with a new Xbox 360… It’s black. It’s codename is Xbox 360 Zephyr.
Program host: They’re totally crazy for doing this!
Girl: Oh yes.
So what do you think? Is this kind of thing all in good fun, or is it sort of crappy of Microsoft to rain all over Sony's launch picnic?
