Gerard Butler certainly has had a strange career on film. First, he was the lead character in The Phantom of the Opera, and then became the star of 300. Now, he's going to be playing one of the icons of American cinema, Snake Plissken, in a remake of the classic Escape From New York, a role immortalized by Kurt Russell in the original film and the sequel, Escape From L.A., in 1996.
Though there is no deal in place yet, CAA is shopping the package around Hollywood, and it is widely assumed that there will be a deal within the next few days, as all of the major studios in town are already bidding on it. It'll happen. Who knows what Butler will get to do next, but it should certainly be interesting.
