LucasArts Sues Digg Over Name

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Friday, February 23, 2007 3:35 PM

LucasArts is suing popular news aggregation site Digg.com over the patent for their name. The suit comes because LucasArts developed a game called 'The Dig' about a century ago. Even though the site has an extra 'g,' they're still suing. TheFeed isn't sure what the motivation behind this lawsuit might be, but it doesn't seem to hold a whole lot of water.

Do they think that you might go to the website and think, 'I wonder if this is a support site for the ancient LucasArts game, The Dig?'  It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and it doesn't go very far toward removing the idea that Lucas is a megalomaniac with a control problem.

Seriously? That's just embarrassing. I'm gonna dilude myself in the thought that good ol' George had nothing to do with this one. Sure, he's a money hungry meiser, but the guy made some epic movies. Argue with me all you want about how the last three ruined the Star Wars serious, blah blah blah, but they continued... or... set up a beginning to continue from... the whole spectacular universe he created with the originals. So, like I said, I'm just gonna convince myself that George didn't even know this was happening and some crazy executive at his company saw this and went, "Hey, I see a bazillion to one chance that this could make us some more money! God knows our games aren't doing that for us!"... Yeah, we'll go with that.

He probably didn't have anything to do with it. I love how everyone automatically calls out Lucas whenever crap like this turns up. He's owner of what? 4 major companies, all in different areas. You think he sits there and makes every single decision about everything? You think Bill Gates does with M$? No. I think he has more important things to do with his time than deciding to sue some no-name web site over a name from a video game almost 20 years old. They have operators, managers, etc. that handle that low-end shite.
