GameCube: R.I.P

Posted February 22, 2007 - By Stephen Johnson

According to an interview at GameDaily.biz with Nintendo of America's VP Perrin Kaplan, the GameCube is no more.

When Kaplan was asked about the fate of the current-gen system, she said: "Are we producing any more GameCubes? No. But do we have the inventory there for people to still purchase? Yes."

According to Kaplan, there are no Nintendo titles in development for the GameCube. And that means lights-out for the system. "You're a core gamer; you wouldn't buy a GameCube. It's not aimed at you anymore," Kaplan said. "But it's still a great starter system because of all the great games."

The beloved, cultish game system is survived by its younger, sexier sister, Wii.

The interview is fascinating. I think you should check it out.
