While there's no real videogame equivalent of the Academy Awards (yet) The Annual Interactive Achievement Awards may be close. Or maybe it's more like the Golden Globes or the SAG awards. You decide.

Anyway, hiding-behind-things sim Gears of War triumphed over all competitors at the awards show this week by taking home eight Anny awards, including Game of the Year. The popular 360 title beat out Oblivion, its main competitor, as well as Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Other honors heaped on Gears include Console Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play.

Wii Sports also took home three awards; apparently, the developers and pros at the D.I.C.E conference don't agree with the oft-made contention that Nintendo's comes-with-the-console title is more like a tech demo than a full fledged videogame.

The full list is beneath the cut. Whether you agree or disagree on the particular choices made, it sure was a good year for gaming, I gotta say.
