Jeff Bridges is signed on to play alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie version of the 1963 Marvel Comic series Iron Man. Bridges, best known for his role as 'The Dude' in the modern day classic The Big Lebowski, will be playing a character of a different nature in the newest of the comic book-to-film adaptation from Marvel. His role in this film, which is currently in pre-production, will be as friend, confidant, and corporate and life advisor to billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, played by Downey Jr.
In the original comic book series, Nick Stark invents Iron Man in effort to escape from an evil-warlord who captures him in Vietnam while he is there trying to assist the United States war efforts. The series exemplified anti-communist/pro-capitalist sentiments with oppositions such as Black Mamba, Crimson Dynamo, and Mandarin. In case you haven’t reached 20th Century United States History, we were once pretty paranoid about that region of the world encroaching on our ability to be the global power we are today….Mwahhahaha!
